I'm in the market for a decent computer for games and music, movies, etc. I'm looking for something useable but not something extremely high end at the moment, my budget is around $550 at most. I'm also in Calgary, so people in the city is easier.

I don't really need a monitor and speakers if you have some with the system, that's great but I don't necessarily need them, I'm more interested in just getting a good system. Basically looking for something that can play games like World of Warcraft, Fable, Neverwinter Nights, Guild Wars, etc. so preferably a good graphics card and 1024 RAM, or atleast upgradeable to that. Multimedia wise I'm looking for something that has USB 2.0 ports for stuff like an iPod. Drive wise a CD-RW, hopefully a DVD-RW.

I'd like something that can be upgraded reasonably well cause it will probably have to last me 6-12 months before I can afford to build my own.

Basically something that can handle some of the newer games at a decent framerate, 2.0 ports something I can mess around on with learning programming and such. If anyone has anything somewhat similar to this and can work in my price range PM me or shoot me an email at [email protected]. Thanks alot.

I know u set ure price but take a look at this, it is OBO, and it was reduced to 1200. If u can get that kinda money, ull have a gaming and multimedia laptop that will not become obsolete for a while and will handle any game u throw at it..

Replying to PM's and emails shortly.

Mo-I'd love to pick up that laptop, but it'd be a couple months before I could swing that. Thanks for the link though.

bigcaddy-Again, really interested in the computer, but don't have near enough for it. Thanks though.

Way to post a computer that is 3 times as much as he is looking to spend....

And second, IF you are going to buy a PC used, make sure it still has at least 1 year of warranty on all the parts, cause you never know. I would suggest going down to Memory express and seeing what you could build. Heres what i KNOW you could build for under 550.

ASRock 939 Dual Mobo - 110 Bucks
512 DDR 3200 Memory - 50 Bucks
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ - 200 bucks
60 Gig Hard drive - 50 Bucks
Geforce 6600 GT- 180?

Comes to about 590.... That could easily handle those games. i would suggest doubling the memory. The Mobo is both AGP and Pci express, so you can upgrade in future. All of that can be gotten at memory express, except for the motherboard. Theres a PC store down the road from them that carries it, i forget the name. After labour (assuming you get them to build it for you, the memory upgrade) looking at about 700 for a decent gaming PC. A very decent gaming rig.

Well if it's not too late you can check this thread out:

I think that's a really good deal, great multimedia unit with a decent graphics card. Maybe after you get some more cash you can upgrade the graphics card and you got a very nice machine.

I can build you a decent comp, but its gonna be around 590...

It'll be something like an AMD 2600 64bit
512 Ram
5500FX 256 meg vid card
80 gig HD
CD-RW 52x
6 Channel audio
350 watt case
3 year warrenty
and It'll be brand new!
include tech support

$550 is a pretty tight budget for a gaming/multimedia computer.

Save up and spend at least $1000 and do it right.

Would that be socket 939 and pci express though? Because if you want upgradability, you NEED those. He wants upgradability.... thats why the one i suggested uses the ASrock 939 Dual motherboard. (dont wanna hurt your "sale" or anything, just want to make sure he gets what he wants)

Make you do your research before you buy anything man!

Hey guys. Thanks for all the offers as well as information. I have a deal pretty much done, don't see it falling through but if for whatever reason anything does happen and it doesn't work out, I'll PM a few of you. Again thanks for all the offers and info!

ummm good question, I didnt check that, but I'm pretty sure it was a 939, and the vid card was PCI.... his budget is really really low, I mean 550 for a decent comp to run all new games... Decent system would be around double that.

I knew $550 was really low, but it's all I had at the moment, anyways I managed to find something that will run all those things I had been looking for well and is upgradeable for a decent while.
