Hi all,

Do these sections of the Police give tours or allow interested young people in to learn more about their work? Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks

As far as I know, these units are quite secretive and do not give regular tours.
The regular police dept will give tours and ride-alongs for interested applicants.

FYI, you will need to be a regular beat officer for 2-5 years before you can move/be promoted into a specialty department.

That's what I thought. Secretive for a good reason though. 2-5 doing regular beat work then, eh? Interesting.

You would have better luck contacting a CPS station then asking on a car forum.

As Dave said you have to be in for a few years before getting into a speciality unit.

Right from the CPS website....

"Is it possible to apply for a position in one of your specialty units? (i.e.: Forensic Unit)

The Calgary Police Service has over 100 specialty units exclusive to experienced sworn police officers. There is no direct hiring for these positions. In order to be eligible to apply for these positions, officers typically must have a minimum of three to five years of operational."

Go to a information session, they are quite informative, as well the CPS website has lots of useful info, if you havent checked it out yet.

Check out the Citizen's Police Academy:

A couple friends of mine took it a few years ago and found it really informative. If I recall the TAC team came in to speak to them but had to leave a bit early because of a call.
