Fuji to host Japanese Grand Prix in 2007

According to the Japanese media in 2007 the Japanese Grand Prix won't be at Suzuka, but at the Fuji Speedway. Bernie Ecclestone told Japanese media that the FOA has signed a multi-year contract with Fuji-Speedway starting in 2007.

That's sweet, looks like they did a wicked job.... Button placing second on the grid, and posting up the fastest lap! Honda for the win!
Ferrari guaranteeing the win? :bullshit:

should be a really interesting race. i say congrats to both fisichella and to rosberg. after his tough failure prone year last year it's kinda nice to see fisi snatch the pole. and rosberg, having never seen this track before this weekend has done a fantastic job. can't wait to watch the race

not a bad race, but not as good as it could have been. surprised that both cosworths let go, feel bad for heidfeld who had such a strong race til his bmw motor let go too. i've also learnt something today. i enjoy watching kimi fail. as soon as he was taken out, i couldnt help but smile...i think it's the fact that he's so dull and seemingly self absorbed that just really makes me dislike him. just my opinion, but i'm sure some of you will let me know i'm wrong ;)

That race wasn't so exciting.

@habsfan, kimi rocks, but he is dull.

I think the lady on the put lane talked to him, he said about 2 words and just started mumbling. One of the F1 commentators said whatever he was in his past life I hope he wasn't as dull.

Looks like Renault again this year  with an even better start than last year

Has everyone declared their favorites so others can kick sand in their eyes when their picks are walking back to the pits?

Did anybody else catch the comment from the Toyota engineer talking about an engine failure caused by a failed oil pump drive ... and calling the drive a "non-critical" part:confused:

I think Toyota's design committee overseeing the classification of parts criticality should set up a sub committee to review the list.

habsfan

i think the toyota team needs to be radically overhauled. you'd think that after spending the large amount of money they do on the sport just to underachieve, they would realize that the team responsible for designing/building the cars needs an overhaul.

WMSC Ratifies 2008 F1 Regulations

The FIA's World Motor Sport Council met this Wednesday and ratified the cost-saving regulations proposed by president Max Mosley for the 2008 Formula 1 season and onwards.

The new rules promise to radically alter the face of the sport, and include measures such as engine rev limiters, standard ECUs and the radical split CDG rear wing.

The key rule changes for 2008

A freeze on engine technology, a single tyre supplier and four-race gearboxes are among the major changes to Formula One’s Sporting Regulations for 2008, as revealed by the FIA on Wednesday.

you have a point with the restart thing. but also the first restart wasn't his fault really. he hit the throttle, and spun the tires. you could see it happen on tv, and by the time he got back on the gas alonso was puttin on his charge. second restart i can't explain tho.

^you missed the point of what i meant. yes he could/should have been more aggressive warming the tires. i meant that timing wise, there was nothing wrong with his restart, just that the tires weren't ready to stick.

^OR ..you missed my point that a GREAT driver CONSISTANTLY beats his teamate - on track --not qualifing
gets past back markers easily
gets another lap from his tires
gets the jump on other drivers
blames himself not the car, or team, or the tires, or...

or gets another 1/4 mile from his engine..even if it means losing 1 point not all of them

it was actually his race director who told button to stop and not cross the line so he wouldn't suffer the 10 grid spot penalty for next race. ;)

but no, i didnt miss your point at all, i was referring to what iceburns had said about the tire warming not being his fault. every team save for renault had tire warming issues in that race.

McLaren are hoping to close the performance gap to Formula One championship log leaders Renault with a new specification Mercedes-Benz engine, which the team is testing at Silverstone this week.

Autosport reports that McLaren hopes to mount a new challenge in the European Grand Prix at Nürburgring next week.

"The engine has got to be proved on the track and the dyno, but it is all about pushing," explained Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren CEO. "On the chassis side as well we have got a few bits of pieces of aero, which we are running at Silverstone, and hopefully those will bring a few tenths (of a second) between them. We are a few tenths behind Renault at the moment, but you also know that when your driver gets close behind a competitor they find a little bit in themselves typically."

Whitmarsh felt that his team should have been able to achieve more than the one podium finish they ended up with at San Marino last weekend.

"As far as our own race was concerned, we have got to accept at the moment that in terms of performance we are not quite good enough," he said. "I think Renault are benchmark, and we could have done a better job. It was a weekend where we weren't benchmark performance. We are close and improving, but not quite as a team performing as well as could have done.

"From where we put ourselves after qualifying the result is okay: we snuck one point from Renault in the constructors' championship and we are second place there, while Kimi is third in the drivers' championship.

"It is going to be a long season and we are going to try to improve our car, engine and package. We are going to win some races and we are certainly going to keep flogging to try to make it an exciting championship."

"You want to have the quickest car but when you throw it away (as at Imola) it is deeply frustrating. We took too long to get our season going last year and we are doing a little bit of that this year, but we will see. Hopefully in the next few races we can bang in a race win and get on form and do the job. We are close but I think I accept that we have got to find a few tenths in our car relative to Renault - taking a few tenths if they are taking a few tenths does not get us there.

"I think it was their race. Fernando Alonso could have and should have won the race, they made a fairly fundamental mistake in strategy."

That was super shady. Alonso was faster in the first sector and even through the yellow flag he managed to pull within .064s of Shumacher's time. Hopefully Schumacher gets schooled tomorrow...which is likely since Massa didn't even post a time.

Kind of like Dwayne Roloson shaking off his mask in the NHL conference finals... this is what cagy veterans do.

I was always a Benetton fan and I stuck with Renault because Falvio is too cool, but now that Schumi is the underdog I am cheering for him. If he wins this year I think he will retire.

If he goes out on top it will make room for Kimi. It would be good for the sport to have a Kimi v. Alonso rivaly.

from planetf1:

Jacques Villeneuve has launched a tirade at Michael Schumacher after the controversial end to qualifying in Monaco.

Schumi spun off the track in the closing seconds of the session, thus bringing out the yellow flags that ensured he would remain in pole position.

"I hope it was deliberate, because if that was a mistake he should not even have a F1 superlicence," Villeneuve raged to Autosport. "If you can make a mistake like that, you shouldn't drive a race car. There's no way you could make a mistake like that.

"It's the kind of thing I couldn't dream of doing myself. I don't know what goes through your mind when you decide to do that, when you know that the rest of the world can see. I don't understand it, it's stupid.

"It shows that you can only give the benefit of the doubt to someone so many times. Sometimes it makes you realise that every time it happens there is a reason behind it.

"He didn't need to do that, he's a seven times world champion, he was on pole position. Why do that? It's only going to make him look bad."

"This is so obvious. When you do something on purpose like that it is very extreme. You should not be allowed to drive a race car when you do stuff like that.

"This is embarrassing. Embarrassing for a world champion. It would even be embarrassing for Ide."

MS got hit harder because it was intentional and a repeat offence for unsportsman like driving from the "greatest" driver evar...he got off light...I would have given him 3 race suspension for that stunt

When it all started with MS... winning the championship in 94 like this:

When Senna died and MS took over as the top driver in May '94, I appreciated his driving skills and thought of him as a great replacement for Senna in F1 until this move that allowed him to win the 94 World Championship. Since then I've been anti-MS no matter how great his skills were.

Kinda sad, he has the skills to win all those championships (minus 94) without resorting to cheap tactics. I'm sure a lot of hardcore die hard F1 fans feel the same way.
