View Full Version : HELP Rubbing on Integra

I just installed a set of lowering springs on my 98 integra. The drop is about 2", I also just got a set of 17x7 rims with 204/40/r17 tires. When i hit a bump or corner kinda hard the tires rub up on my fenders.
If anybody knows whats going on to cause this please share.
when i installed the springs the instructions said to cut the bumpstops in half. I didnt cut the bumpstops when i installed them. Could this have anything to do with the rubbing?
thanks alot

Also the profile of the rubber is 205/40/r17 which is the normal size for honda/acura 4x100 bolt

Ill check the offset.
They are 17x7 RSS Muro Rims
Tires are Nexen 205/40/zr17
The springs do sag a little, the rims dont seem to tuck in the fender, i was driving with 3 people in my car and every bump the tires would hit the fenders.

if they don't tuck nicely into the fender that means the offset may be off by a little, can you take a picture?

a stiffer shock might help aswell....
stock shocks with aftermarkets springs = nono
my GT has edelbrock springs and stock shocks and it rubs the left front like a mofo.
my cobra has eibach springs with kyb shocks, no rubbing and the ride quality and handling is SUPERB
canadian tire sells spring spacers, not sure how well they work. it may be worth a try tho... it looks like a little chunk or rubber or metal that sits in the coil :D

I used to have a teg and my bro has one too. His springs were H&R sport (soft) mine were H&R race (hard). He rubs like crazy with my rims on. I NEVER rubed. Stiffer springs make all the difference in the world. On a teg that is that low you need to have a stiff spring.

If u never rubbed with the race springs maybe i should look into getting those. Do the race springs have a harsh ride or is it fairly comfortable? also were u running 17's with the race springs?

I ran 16s. they were 205-46/R16 but like i said my brother rubbed crazy with them on softer springs. It's all in the spring rates. The lower you go to higher the rate has to be so you don't bottom out. And yes it was pretty hard riding but with good shocks I got used to it after a while.
Here is how it looked. 2" drop up front and 1.75" in the back.

You don't need to roll your fenders. Try a stiffer spring or a different offset instead. If a professional doesn't roll your fenders, it'll look bad.

Ya, anybody have any good ideas on a set of stiffer springs but with a decent ride quality.
I was thinking either h&r race or neuspeed race?
I cant really get a different offset because i just bought the rims brand new.

It definatelly looks like a combination of spring that is too soft and a bit of offset. Since you don't wanna change your rims, you should get stiffer springs and definatelly some shocks too. I recommend Kyb AGX shocks, they are fairly cheap and work well. Don't lower your car on race springs and stock shocks it won't work.

doesn't have anything to do with the bumpstop......cutting the bumpstop just allows for more shock travel with a lower spring.........it's definately the offset of the wheel.........i was running a 2.5inch drop on my ITR with 18inch wheels and it didn't rub at all!!!!

So what should the offset be on my wheels?
they read 17x7 40+offset is that right for integra?

Did you get it aligned after lowering? Maybe something is bent or maybe you need some more negative camber.........

Strange. Here's a pic of the exact same thing on my car... 205/40/17 with a 40mm offset. I have NEVER rubbed on the fenders :dunno:
Were your friends grossly overweight perhaps? ;)

i had 17's on my integra too and it was lower aswell and i never rubbed unless i had a full car :dunno:
i had it lowered on coil-overs and KYB shocks, ride confort was perfect, almost as conftorable as stock but deffinately better cornering and responce

After you dropped it, you should have been at a reasonably negative angle. I can't see dialing in *more* negative camber on a dropped Integra unless it's an all out track car, or you work at a tire shop.

I just mean't that if my tires tucked a bit more in the wheelwell i wouldn't be having these rubbing issues.
