Has anyone been to Zihuatanejo? I have read that it is quite a nice place to visit in Mexico if you arent sold on the all-inclusive chain resorts.
Has anyone been there? Does any one recommend a place to stay?
Fantasic place!
Ixtapa / Zihuatanejo are great because they're less 'touristy'. If you enjoy seeing the more acute side of Mexico. It's awesome, tons of places to go for walks, moped rides, and awesome little shacks for food, and shopping. It's CHEAP too. Big Bottle (roughly 66oz) of Khaluah was 9 bucks. The beach is terrific.
A lot of the accommodations are more along the lines of family run inns, and such, but there are large Hotels also. It's a great resort/relax place, lots of beach spas, and "Club Med/Adults Only" places. Not a crying children haven.
This is a great resort in Zihuatanejo:

Also look into Hotel Emporio in Ixtapa.

AWEXOME!
However, Vista Del Sol is probably going to be a bit too pimp for my budget, perhaps for a night or 2 at the end of the trip but definately not for the full 10 days.
Hopefully I can find somewhere around the $120-170 USD/night place that is still comfortable with a decent view of the bay.
How long did you stay for? Which beach should I find a place near? Did you do any snorkelling or fishing?
3 weeks.
The snorkeling is phenominal. Lots of guides willing to take you for a tour for basically free. It is a historical fishing village so the knowledge of the area by the locals is very good.
If you're looking for a good hotel at a decent price, check this place out:

It's in a wicked lagoon.

10/10 place. we stayed in ixtapa at the pacifica resort. worth every penny. we had a room with a spa on the balcony that overlooked the ocean. they also have a gondola that takes you up to the restaurant on top of the hill.
this place is amazing and so beautiful.

oh here is another nice spot. its on the very very far end of ixtapa. cannot walk to downtown, etc unlike pacifica where you can walk the beach to the down town.
