After paying one "Play Station 2" for an oil change at the local BMW dealer, I began to wonder if there is a way to reset the maintance indicator on a BMW without taking it to the dealer.

Any DIY cheat methods?

Take a little jumper wire, open your hood up.. on your passenger side , you will see the large round diagnostics port.. unscrew the cap .. now turn your key so that the oilservice lights are turned on.. take your piece of wire, stick one end of it into pin #7 .. take the other end and connect it to chassis ground.. keep it grounded for about 20 seconds...

depending on the year of your e36, the service and oil lights should reset themselves after the 20 seconds of grounding, or after your turn the igntion back off and then turn it back on..

Are E30's the same? Mine has the round diagnostic port also.
