crossover cable

or you could put your two computers on the same workgroup and then make a shared folder and place your files into that folder and retreive it from your other computer.

easiest way I can think of is burn it on dvd or if you have a 1 gig jump drive just transfer it that way.

or external HDs, etc..

k, not 100% sure but try this.

On ur pc:

right click my computer --> computer name tab --> [change]

click on workgroup button and give it a name.

On your laptop:

do the same thing, give it the same workgroup name.

On your pc:

Make a folder and place everything into that folder.

right click on the folder and go to the sharing tab.

click on share this folder and give it a name.
Eg: folder

Now on your laptop:

start --> run --> pc's ip adress\folder\

and you should be able to see your stuff.

Both pc and laptop have to be connected to the internet for this to work.

yea, i'm probably missing something there.

Easiest ways:

-get a jump drive/external hd
-burn onto dvd
-send thru msn/email
-crossover cable

i found that work group is thes easiest:

click on network connection -- make a small home/work network. do that for both comps, i might have missed a few steps its close, just follow the steps.

no need to setup any network

cross over or router

start -> run

type in \\computername\sharefolder

to find computer name right click my computer then its in one of those tabs

then when u get into the share folder copy n paste

might ask u to login with an account.. use what u login with windows

THAT'S WHAT I WAS MISSING!!

the \\before the ip address.

You can use ip address or computername. Both will do the job.

DVD RW Drive with software $46

1 DVD-R media $0.25

Having your MP3 collection backed up on a DVD and not waste Laptop's HD space, priceless.

I have one these things for whenver I need to transfer data around:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/index.php?PageTag=&page=file&memx_menu=EmbedProductDetail.php&DisplayProductID=6768&SID=

All you need is a hard drive and this thing. It converts any IDE device into a USB device. You can either pull your hard drive out of your computer, or if you have a spare one kicking around you can use that. I'm sure someone on here can lend you a hard drive.

Once you have it, plug it into your computer, copies files to the drive, then plug it into your notebook and copy the files over.

:werd:

If you aren't DVD capable but can do CD-Rs then 6-7 cds at 20 cents per disc won't break the bank either.

Don't bother zipping - it won't do shit.

Someone was selling a 1.5gb USB card. Load it, plug it into the other comp, transfer, repeat. Or use an IPOD mini :dunno:

Thanks for the directions on this! I didn't know you could do this. I just bought a new computer a couple weeks ago and used about 30 CDR's to burn some 'vids' so I could put them on my new computer.......used this technique to transfer 4.5GB of mp3s and it only took about 20 mins!

:werd: I just got my laptop and transferred just over 20 GB in less than 1.5 hours
I used wireless for that as well so I'm sure if I used a landline it would have been much much faster.
Also, if you hook up the computers directly, (If they are both running XP) they will recognize each other and create a connection automatically.
