Posted this in the wrong forum before so didn't get much feedback, but what you guys think of this car?

If Mazda puts this out they'll have a hit on their hands I bet. Very few cars with this styling for around $20,000. Supposed to be lightweight and RWD  Damn how do I inline link images? It keeps showing up as links.

looks like a rx-8..... kinda shortened too... but hey rwd from mazda is damn good for $20,000

the styling would take a little to get used it, its a little extreme for my tastes but i still give it a thumbs up

i doubt it will actually look like that when it goes into production, just look at the RX-EVOLV or watever, the concept car that lead to RX-8.

thats $20 USD too, not CAD.

o ok so about lets say about 26k or so CAD, that about right? thats still pretty cheap won't you say?

^^^^ well at least they tried new stylings, though some bits of it are a little odd but they are sure to sort those out at production

Yea sorry, $20k US. You have a point about this being a concept, but look at Mazda's crossover vehicle which they debuted (production version) at Detroit this year. It was not much different at all from the concept version they showed last year. Hopefully Mazda doesn't hack this thing up when they ok it for production!

IMO, it doesn't look like its worth a penny over 20K USD

gp36912
01-17-2006, 01:00 AM
the rwd alone should be worth that :P good power potential, and since its not a rx-model then theres some good potential in that engine, bout 260 to the rear wheel on a 2.3l engine, (the one the mazdaspeed 6 uses atm) or more if u turbo the 2.5

It's main competitor is Honda Civic Si and that is also $20K US.

Now if Mazda can do a RWD coupe with 200hp under $20K, it will sell.

But it's more likely to come with the stock 170HP from MX-5 to start with.

gp36912
01-17-2006, 01:15 AM
so now it comes down to the decision of front wheel drive 197 hp honda, or rwd 170 hp mazda :P that is a tough decision.

guess depends if ur going to upgrade the engine components. but 170 hp miata engine is still a pretty decent starting point for some hp building, rwd will help with the acceleration.

civic has a front lsd (its catching on,(mazdaspeed6 supposedly has one too)), 197 hp stock, front wheel drive.

from the main standpoint... i say its pretty even split, and it would problably come down to price and styling.

all it needs is the renesis engine in it and I'll buy it for sure. I like the rx8 but it never should of had 4 doors and a back seat this is mazda's chance to right their wrongs

I think the reason that car might be cheap is because you'll be spending thousands to replace the windshield everytime you get a rock on Deerfoot.

Nice concept, can't say it'll be a practical car though.

I love it. If it's here in the next two years I would probably be one of the guys in the dealership buying one. There's no way they'll have that windshield, with a normal one that is one sweet little car!

Jeez how many other LIGHT (2500lbs) RWD coupes that seats 4 are on the market today for $23,000 CDN??

You guys are a bunch of whiners. This concept is a great idea. The North America marketplace needs it BAD.

yea since we're rittled with FWD Econoboxes.

I dunno its original so i love it. the 90's were great years for cars. awesome styling, lots of choice in what to choose (not every car looks the fucking same)

IMO the 21st century has been poor so far. Toyota and Nissan have practicallly no good cars anymore (of course exceptions for the 350Z ;) )

Actually, it's more like 1.4x.

So $20k US in car money = $28k CDN.

I think his point was that Canadian prices aren't just the difference in dollars.

We seem to pay the diference + atleast 10%

Maybe I'm crazy, but I see a lot of sweet 3rd gen RX7 styling cues around this car.

Most notably how the dashboard is kind of canted towards the driver, the center column is on an incline. The cockpit "wraps" around the driver like in the FD. Also, the sillouette taillights!

The redline on the tach as 7500 RPM... like FD's. I'm going to hold on to my delusions of a rotary eventually going under the hood of this sex machine =D.

In conclusion, Mazda will officially be the most ballsy of all the Japanese manufacturers if they put this bad boy into production ^_^.

US vs CDN isn't that big of a difference anymore.

Civic Si

US $19950

CDN $26000

Looks alright to me. Love how you can see the engine through the hood.

What's wrong with the 4 doors of the rx8? Just because it doesn't follow the "traditional" definition of that a coupe has to have only 2 doors. It's useful. By the way, the Kabura has 3 doors, so it doesn't count as a sports coupe either? Regular door on the driver side and on the passeger side, a regular door PLUS a suicide/sliding door. It's a three seater + 1 also.

For this price point, styling and RWD ... there's little competition

Definitely not, if you check out the videos on Kaburaforums (http://www.kaburaforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65) they say it is supposed to be in between the miata and the RX-8, price around $20k US and compete with the Scion TC... so unless Mazda is willing to destroy the legendary RX-7 name by competing it with the Scion TC, then this is definitely not the RX-7 replacement.

^ Exactly. Plus, it WILL NOT have a rotary engine. The "R" in "RX" means "Rotary".

I think maybe Mazda is realizing that there's a lack of affordable small RWD sports coupes now. Hopefully the Kabura will start a trend among the Japanese carmakers to make such cars. The key is to keep them cheap so they avoid their earlier problems with the RX7, 300Z, Supra, etc.. being too expensive.

Rotarynews had said that there is an effort underway in the US to try and get the rotary in there, as at least an option.

They're trying to drum up enought enthusiast interest to offer an rx-3 version. Alot of the mazda staff had been going to the last few sevenstocks to guage enthusiast interest and they are making an effort to revive the small rotary coupe remiscnent of the 70's rx-3.

But likely it will be the mx-3.

Mazda needs to pull their heads out of their arse and just produce a hard-top miata.

Fuck this ugly POS.
