Just wanted to say that the search engine on here is absolute garbage.

I cant search any of my old posts, unless i do it by going through ever post ive ever made by searching my own username.

I don't see why everyone is having issues with the search engine lately.
Are you 250% sure that your parameters are set correctly?

Are you 299% sure that you have checked whether you changed the box from "last 3 months" to "any date"

Have you tried the built in Google search for what you are looking for?

With a combination of both Google search and the forums search I can't see how its impossible to find something.

I've brought up numerous old threads (see the Ferrari F50 thread in Car Vid gallery) to post a link for a repost.

No problemos here.

Ill try using the built in google search as well.

Haven't tried using the google function, but I will.

However I did a search last week, and the very top thread of one of the boards should have come up with parameters that I set and it didn't, it was strange. No I wasn't looking for it, but I still found it strange that it didn't show up.

I think part of the reason is it depends on how the post is titled??

Most of us who are having toubles are using EXACTly what the title originally was.

I still think the time limit is too long. You search for something, get wrong results so you go back to search again and it denies you (and wipes all your search parameters in the process).

(Yes I know time was reduced from 45 to 30, and that it's to prevent search bombing, but that could be accomplished with a 5 second wait IMO.)

If it's by your self put in your user name it's easier.

I think it's fine, you just have to mess around with the options are you're set.

The 30 seconds search rule needs to be changed to something like 15 seconds. If there is no result and you search again it sucks. :D I have no patience...

There is nothing wrong other than the search delay.

Don't assume the search is the same as every other forum out there because it is different. Don't just use the defaults as it was bringing up non-relevant posts during searches.

I have never failed to find something I was looking for. By default it will ONLY search for the search terms in the THREAD TITLE and within the last 3 months. If you don't know the thread title, thats fine, change it so it searches the post content.

By default, ALL the search terms MUST be found in either the title or post depending on what you set it to. So if you put some really specific search terms, it wont find it unless you use "OR" between it.

Example:

Search for "broken search", you wont find this thread because the thread title was poorly chosen. Search for "broken OR search" and it will show up.

Search for "broken search" but change the search to look through "entire posts" and again this thread will come up. Do the same search in the "title only" and the thread wont show up.

Pretty simple. :)

PS: search time reduced to 10s

nice for the search time being reduced.

i think the search is pretty easy just the same as tryin to find anything else on the internet!

Weird. I've never had any problems searching for anything here. I'm usually able to find what I'm looking for on the first or second try :dunno:

Just another good reason for you people to start naming your threads more accurately. Titles such as:

"Hey!"
"Check this out!"
"Help!"
"lol"
"wtf?!"
etc....

really don't describe anything about the thread topic.

The default is to search just thread titles. Change the option to search posts as well, and voila.

Awesome. The 30 seconds was getting cumbersome. Especially when the fields got erased and you had to enter the criteria again.

Despite me being the one who started this thread, that is completly true. Reason most people cant find reposts as well is thanks to people naming them on of the above.:poosie:
