View Full Version : 50% off after 9 pm at sakana grill?
Is that true? Even for fri and sat nite?
I'm going to be in Calgary this weekend so any sushi that's cheap is good :D

Kind of..not really...haha..its their Happy Hour specials
You can get Love Boats for $20.
I go there all the time, but never really order off the Happy Hour menu.
But if sushi that's cheap, makes it good...then Sakana is your place!

I wish they had something like this in edmonton. When ever I go down to Calgary I always go there.

Well the mixed response is probably due to the fact that sometimes you go it's a hit and other times, it's a miss. ha ha ha

I was thinking of giving sakana ago for the happy hour specials tonight but still not to clear when it starts, op says 9 then then the guy above me says he went at 10. Does anyone know when the specials start up tonight?

Well, now that you've got my stomach interested, is it after 10pm every weeknight? Or does that only apply to weekend nights?

I went there the other night for the 50% boat. It's mediocre so you pretty much get what you pay for.
Oh how I miss Vancouver sushi

I hit the crowfoot location once a week (just had it a few hours back) The happy hours are from 2-5 and 9-11 everyday. The boat goes from $36 down to $20. My personal fav is the lunch bento box special:
Chicken Teriyaki
Rice
Soup (Miso or Egg Drop)
Salad
2 House Rolls
1 Salmon Nigiri
1 Tuna Nigiri
for $6.95
...but again, I was in Vancouver over last weekend...and its a world of difference in the taste.

fyi, a few months ago the crowfoot location got shut down for unbeleiveably unsanitary conditions. I heard unofficial rumors that the kitchen was more disgusting than a porta potty, ate there once, will never go back. My sister used to underwrite insurance for restaurants, when they say its gross, its really really gross.

04-13-2008, 03:59 PM
well they're all gross
think about how certain pieces taste fresher than others and you'll know how long they kept their stock for (they all get them from the same place)
i don't mind so much the sanitary conditions, just that they taste like shit and still cost just as much. ppl here have absoutely no expectations
only places i'll eat at are zipang, wa's, miki, and hiro (at night)

Sakana Grill is pathetic.
I wouldn't go there even if they had an 80% off special.
As for Sushi BBQ Inn, that place is an insult to all the other Japanese restaurants on the planet.

I didn't see any orders against Sakana Grill this year, but there was one last year in June. If anybody wants to read the report, you can find it here. http://www.calgaryhealthregion.ca/hecomm/envhealth/Executive_Officer_Orders/Orders_Food/2007/Inactive/Sakana_Grill_455_10_Crowfoot_Ci_NW_Calgary_June_12_2007_I.pdf
Sometimes I wish I didn't know about this site as it lists all the restaurants that every had a health order against it.

i cant beleive i said this place was good, i went there yesterday so nasty. Rice was hard as crap and it ttasted like the rolls were sittting out a long time. Globefish is 20x beter then this shat!

05-11-2008, 02:36 PM
I think globefish is pretty bad for what you pay for. However it doesn't compare to how bad Sushi BBQ and Sakana Grill is. But, going there when it's 50 percent off, you know what you are getting yourself into ahead of time.
ralliart_girl
05-12-2008, 01:29 PM
I have never heard anyone say Globefish was a bad place.....I would have to totally disagree. Globefish is one of my favorite places in Calgary for sushi.

^^ Yup, but they also have one on 14th street. I haven't been to the Marda loop one yet.

the service at marda loop is awful
they had the brains to serve two orders of the same food for a party of ten on the same fucking plate
my friends and i feel like royalty at the 14th st. location tho
kinjo tastes just as bad, it might be cleaner tho:angel:

F*ck Kinjo. That place has gone steadily downhill since Peter stop being there all the time.
Bad service AND tasteless sushi 4 times in a row.
Yet another restaurant we won't return to (unless Peter comes back and shapes things up again)

i've had nothing but awesome service at kinjo and i think it's one of the best places to go to in calgary (if that's saying much).

im going to give this "sakana" a try in a llong time here, havnt been there in awhle, just sushi boat lately so i want to try something different.
well i gave it a try and got the deluxe love boat with miso soup. It was quite good, not used to my tastes though compared to the regular sushi dishes i have, but good none the less with good variety and presentation.
