alright, the mini mini van (the golf) is looking into being retired from highway driving in march and i want something that i can get better milage with. Alright this is where i need the advice. from the guys on here who also do alot of highway diving what would you suggest as a new car. I have a budget of $16,000. right now the gold is eating up 1/4 of a tank just to get to red deer and than another 1/4 and a bit to get to edmonton. Right now i have been thinking about getting a 1999-2000 acura integra or the new civic coupe. The only problems with these cars is that i have been looking into integras and they ussually have 100,000km's on them but i like the fact that i will have some extra money on the side to us for other purposes than wasting it on the 240sx. But ifi go for the new civic i will have to pay off the existing 2-4 thousand during the summer. so what are some other options, it has to be an import cause i am not a domestic fan, and not a sunday church car cause this is my daily driver 11 out of 12 months on the year at this time. so what do you guys think.

i remember when my mom owned a 2000 toyota corolla, that thing was really good on gas

well i wanted to stay away from vw, esspecially ones with AT tranny's. but the TDI is the best choice when it comes to highway milage.

You're not going to get too much better mileage from a civic or integra. It takes about the same to get to Edmonton as your Golf does.

If you want an economical car, buy a Smart.

TDI yo.
Drive from Calgary to Edmonton...then back to Calgary.....then to Edmonton a second time....then back to Calgary again all on the same tank :D :D :D :D.

TDI = cheap to maintain, great economy, mad torque stylez, and it will last you forevar.

i have a 01 corolla, the thing is nice on gas if u drive it sensibly, i have calculated my avg liters per kilometer, and its sitting at about 7.8 l / km thats about less than 1/6th of the tank per 100 km on city roads, well mostly city, the corolla sees deerfoot for about 5 minutes tops. but ya i'm guessing the gas mileage for highway driving is something like 7L or even droping into the high 6L range, my dad can drive down to west ed and back in one tank, kinda risky though.

o and about having 100,000km on them, if its an import forget about the milage, they are built to last :P my corolla has just hit 110,000 and its still running strong. clutch is just starting to slip, probably going to have to replace it in a year or so, maybe not depends on how bad it gets. you can problably find a nice 01 that will cost less than 8gs, just have to search a bit more, or if u want, theres a few nice 02s for about 12k with just over 100,000 km on it. quite a few choices actually. i did see an 05 corolla for 15gs over at automaxx, its got 44,000 km on it :P took a search through autotrader and found it lol. it is an auto though. its an option, decide what u want, i'm just throwing out suggestions etc. but in the end its your money so decide what u want to do.

thats after the 240sx, hopefully next year. i can't afford to have to sleeper cars (not the fast type, but the ones that stay in the garage all the time) right now.

thanks for the info, a friend of mine had a corolla and he was telling me the same thing. very nice cars but they are a car that i just can't see myself driving, even though toyotas will hit 300,000 and they will still feel like they are brand new.

How about a Toyota Yaris?
Toyota quality with great mileage and i'm guessing you can probably get a brand new one that fits your budget.
