Avoid Saab like you'd avoid the plague ! I know several Saab owners with plenty of significant quality issues.

Say no to the Jetta because its FUGLY.

I know a few Saab owners who are extremely unhappy with their vehicles. One guy claims that his car has spend over half its life in the shop

Out of your choices, I guess I would go with the Jetta. I know a few people with Altima's and they seem satisfied with them, but depends on how big of a car you are looking for.

Altima is a good car. Best bang for your buck in my opinion. The Jetta is really expensive for what you're getting - it's way overpriced.

I think you'll be plagued with quality issues with all 3 of those cars.

Take a Subaru Legacy for a test drive before buying any of those three.

The base model 2.5 is a bit underpowered but has.. heated mirrors/seats/windsheild wipers, ABS std, side curtain airbags standard, rated tops in safety by the iihs.org, and according to consumer reports is just as (errr more) reliable as all three of the above. Not to mention AWD.

Just a warning:

VW has the worst reliability of any manufacturer right now...even worse than Kia and Hyundai.

This is from 2004, but I've seen a similar 2005 report:
http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/08/pf/autos/cr_auto_reliability/

Go for the Altima.

VW has a terrible reliability reputation even tho some of their owners will disagree.

Saab is owned by GM isn't it?

A saab 9-2x is a Subaru Impreza. Yes saab is owned by GM, but this one should be a safe bet as they are made by Subaru, just different appearance items.

And didn't Toyota buyout GM's shares in Subaru?

if you go with the jetta, get the 2.0T, not the 2.5

Yes but there is still a partnership with Saab.

The big question is why not a legacy over the Saab 9-2

Unless you are taking your car to the track on a weekly basis Legacy > Impreza

Not to mention the Saab plant's build quality totally sucks compared to subaru.

subaru has shit quality as well.... every car company has lemons and beut's.... i have a buddy i worked with that bought a brand new dodge ram 2500 diesel in 1993... he did all of his oil changes on time and at the dealership... last year he hit 1,000,000 kms and the president of Dodge canada personally handed him the keys to an '05 fully loaded Ram..... ive also seen toyotas in the shop every week.

just pick what u like i guess

Ya according to consumer reports Subaru is about #3 behind toyota and honda. The major issue was a recurring head gasket problem on the N/A 2.5L. But that is one of the first things that has been resolved since Toyota got shares and I would expect to see subaru's comparative ratings to start rising. I currently have 3 toyotas a 2000 Echo -bought new and now with over 200,000K (most reliable car I have ever owned - to date), bought used Supra ( a fucking lemon), bought used Corolla (modded - so can't comment or compare to a new car) and just bought a new Legacy.

Performance wise the Legacy is no killer, (3500Lb car with a 4 cylinder) but that isn't why we bought it. I test drove the Accord, Odyssey, CRV, Camry, Vibe, Prius, Altima, Mazda6, Saturn L, Forester and Legacy.

I bought a legacy wagon 2.5i and so far the fit, finish, ride, storage capacity, is amazing as well as all of its standard options.

i would go for the altima as well, from your three choices up there that would be my pick. but have you considered the

(in order of preference)
1. toyota Avalon.(very comfy and luxurious)

2.Acura TSX (looks really nice in black or pearl white)

3.Toyota Camry
http://www.toyota.ca/NWS/media/camry/models/i_models_sev6.jpg http://www.toyota.ca/NWS/media/camry/interior/i_int_main.jpg
4. Honda Accord
http://automobiles.honda.com/images/banners/2006/accord_sedan/exterior_gallery/large2.jpg http://automobiles.honda.com/images/banners/2006/accord_sedan/interior_gallery/large6.jpg
5. Mazda 6 (really nice in black)
http://www.mazda.ca/eng/Vehicles/Mazda6/800x600/6_03.jpg http://www.mazda.ca/eng/Vehicles/Mazda6/800x600/6_05.jpg

these cars are really good, roomy and stylish, (more stylish than the jetta for sure)

just keep them in mind, they will probably last longer and treat you alot nicer. .

Of those 3, the Altima is your best bet. VW and Saab quality problems are reason enough to stay away from either. VW produces some of the worst cars you can buy.

Hey Fez_turbo you cant even compare those cars not to mention a couple of them are significantly more expensive than the ones he mentioned. Personally, with only those choices id go drive the Saab and the Jetta and see which one I like better, the Altima looks awfully bland unless you go for the 3.5 or even the SE-R

AllGoNoShow

Altima would be my choice.

I know some owners happy with their Saabs and others not so happy. Haven't heard many complaints from the Altima owners.

i vote altima. even the 2.5 isnt that bad. drove it from lethbridge to calgary. it was pretty good. pretty comfy. not that much road noise.

i dont think gas was an issue either. i have never driven from lethbridge before. so i wouldnt exactly know. but half a tank got to the airport and the gas light came on when i hit okatoks, 359 km.

All the following are base prices only

Toyota avalon 39.900
Acura tsx 27.890
Toyota camry 24.990
Honda accord 18.225
mazda 6 23.795

nissan altima 24.798
saab 92-x 25.900
jetta 2.5 24.975

they are actually really close in value, except the avalon, and some are less, and yes they do equally compare to the choices that he/she is looking at right now. some are even better.:D

^ LOL

You are confusing US prices and canadian prices. A 2 year old TSX is worth a lot more than your brand new list price of 27K!

Also, the accord for 18k?

when you are getting prices use .ca websites instead of .com
