Xbox 360: 720p vs 1080i

It seems like everyone has their own friggen opinion on this, so I figured I'd put it up here since some people seem really knowledgeable about this stuff.

In general, which do you like better?

What about for a guy like me who's tv's native resolution is 1024x780 :D

i assume you mean 1024x768?

720p is going to look better for you, since your tv doesnt have near enough pixels to do 1080i anyway. you probably wont be able to see a difference in resolution in your case, but 720 wont be interlaced so itll look smoother during motion.

The Xbox 360 menus look about ten times better in 1080i but the actual games look almost completely the same either way.

they only look better in 1080i if your tv supports it. if not, it downscales it to 720 anyway and looks no different.

also, some games are 720 while others are 1080i. depends on the game. a 720 game wont look any better in 1080i mode.

every single 360 game has to support 1080i... that was the hype leading up to its release. I don't think it has changed since then.

they only have to support at least 720p. the hype was that they have to support HD, which 720p is. 1080i is optional. check the back of the boxes, a bunch are only 720, others are 1080i.

Does the Xbox 360 output in HD resolution?
Yes. On the software side, Microsoft required that all Xbox 360 games support at least 720p resolution with 1080i support optional.
