--- original post ---

I bought some Depo angel eyes for my e36 from tunerworks (basically stock w/ the angel eyes).. and I'm having difficulty wiring them.
http://img24.imagevenue.com/loc299/th_18b7d_Picture_006.jpg (http://img24.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc299&image=18b7d_Picture_006.jpg)

Firstly, the corner lights had the wrong input on them, but they didn't fit anyways (possibly made for 4dr) so I didn't use them. They were a two-prong type attachment whereas the current corners are 3-prong type.

But the real issue is wiring the back of the headlight housing. There are four attachments in the back.. similar to the ones here:
http://www.logun.org/ellipsoidinstall.htm
with this picture: http://www.logun.org/images/e36info/ellipsoid/MVC-557F.JPG

I've got the brown on the top, yellow on the bottom, grey to the outside (nearest corner light), and white on the inside (nearest engine). Yellow/brown and White/brown go to the existing wiring harness on the e36. As for the grey wire, I am not sure where to patch it. It does not attach to a wiring harness, it's just loose. I tried piggybacking onto the grey/purple wire on the corner lights... I don't think it worked.

Basically I am getting less than specatcular results, with seemingly random arrangements of low-beam/high-beams. So I am not sure if I am attaching everything in the proper orientation.

Lastly, there are cyan and red hookups (below the 4-prong attachment area) that are supposed to attach to an incuded wire that grounds as well as attaches the headlights to the battery (including a fuse near the battery). However, it was made for a car with a front mounted battery as opposed to the e36's trunk type... It goes from the cyan connector on one headlight, to the cyan AND the red on the other, and from there to the battery.. [w/ black + red cables] but it must be in the front. So I cannot use it and I'm not necessarily sure that I have to.

Strange.. I set it up as mentioned... and I don't get hibeams or angel eyes at all. I'll go through everything again tomorrow.

Thanks for the link.

sometimes with depo headlights the pins are rotated clockwise one way or the other...
you could try and feel/see the wiring behind the covers to see which pins are where.

Thanks Bobby it seems to have worked. I have grey to outside, white on the inside, yellow on top, brown on the bottom. I did butcher one of the brass plugs though, and will have to pick up one of those pnp plugs again.

@ACS-e36.. yeah it's strange since the pins are in different positions than most. But it's all good now.

UPDATE: Still not working.. tried a couple configurations and the best thing I can get is one side fully working. Thought I had it before in my last post..but that was before I hit the highbeams or set the lights to "off" position. I've reached the point of total frustruation.

I've tried the picture (only works on one side), I've also tried just..
1-ground 2-city 3-low 4-high
even though on ONE side there's no #1 but theres a #4, and on the other there's a #1 but no #4. WTF!?

I'm wondering if the two-prong style corner lights are a necessary part of the setup (ie for power/loading)... and I have the 3prong type (since the supplied ones don't fit).

Either way, I need to take a break from this project because it's literally driving me insane.

Has ANYONE personally worked with this model and can tell me their pin/colour layout on EACH side?

ACS-e36 does, I'm sure he'll chime in soon. You can take your headlights out and look at where the cables physically go....or......I BELIEVE they're 12 volts, so ....I don't see any harm in trying different combinations until you get it? I have bosch, and hooked it up as umnitza did, so I can't help you there....

Any updates?

the gray wires are the short ones right? they power the angel eyes, use those banana clips supplied with the kit to splice into the cornerlamp power wires - i believe they are purple/grayish (i may be wrong on where to splice, i don't even have an e36 anymore) but i thought they were wired up just like the "real" ellipsoids but there is no provision for "city lights", instead there is the provision for the AE power

@three.eighteen... you are right, I have done this. They are properly wired in that respect.

@2m0a0x2: Yeah I understand what you're saying... and you'd think I would have got the right combination by now.. but I haven't, strangely.

Tomorrow I'm going to bust out to voltmeter and connect pins to contacts (@ bulb) to see if they lie on the same circuit. This way I SHOULD, in theory, figure out the colours.

If I do figure this out I will be sure to post results/guide!

The voltmeter "should" work!

Keep us posted!

FINALLY! Got them working. Since I couldn't seem to get the proper angle on the plug for the pins on the lights, I couldn't exactly see what was behind them. Did use the voltmeter though. Interesting results.

The mistake I made was assuming that the ground (brown) was always opposite the low beams (yellow), as they are on many other common systems. This ISN'T the case with these.

See attached diagram..

Finished product!

@Tunerworks: YUP thanks for the all the help! Can I bring the corner lights back? Or do you know anyone that wants them? I believe they might be fitted for a 4DR e36.
