On a relevant topic, is there anybody in town that stocks Elf products?

When I asked at a local partsource about getting Castrol 505.01, they called up Oils Unlimited, who ironically did not carry it, so I guess they should really be named Oils Limited...
That said, maybe they carry it?

Wait, did you check the thread on TDIClub about Mobil 1 re-formulating their T&SUV oil (which IIRC is the same as Delvac 1)? I believe they are re-releasing it next month, and it should be back on the shelves soon.

there is one mobil1 distributor on barlow, across from the new casino, they have delvac1, so i'm gonna go there and buy it. i need it right away.

my old man bought some 15W40 Delvac at a garage sale a little while back, and wow all i have to say is that stuff is pretty darn thick and viscous, after i ran that through a oil change cycle and put back the regular 15-W30 the car felt like it gained more HP... good stuff though especially for those High temp Turbo applications

15W40 Delvac is for diesel and heavy truck applications... So it's pretty thick ;)

Bart, I'm still 5600km from my next oil change, and will probably be going with Amsoil AFL when I get there. The price isn't that different, and I've always been an Amsoil guy, and they just finally put the 505.01 spec on their 5W40 AFL.

The castrol you are selling, is it 505.01? (Mine's a PD, so it's kind of important ;) )

Rather lucky you could find the Delvac 1. As was mentioned on TDI Club, they phased it out in early january, and the replacement products aren't coming in for another couple of weeks. The guys at the Mobil distributor should know more about it. They're replacing it with a 5W40 and a 5W30, both heavy duty diesel oils. I think the 5W40 will bear the 505.00 certification, but i could be mistaken on that point. The TDI guys in the states are going crazy trying to get Mobil 1 right now. Lots of them have sworn off it, rather bad move by Exxon-Mobil IMO.

The 5W40 that is currently on the shelves shouldn't be the new stuff yet. Which means that it won't bear the modern diesel certifications, or 505.00. Unless they've changed it since I last checked.

@fivefresh: yes, thats where i eventually found it, i bought a whole case of it, they wont sell them individually.

@zero: ya no, the castrol i have is for non-pds. you dont want that, or you will wreck your engine. if you cant find it, you can just buy it from the dealership.

also, delvac1 only comes in 5w40, i'm pretty sure... i asked if this stuff is going away, he said no, they have tons and there is no plan of discontinuing it.

mobil1 also makes a "turbo diesel" oil for passenger cars in europe, which is 0w40, you can get the same stuff here, but it has a different name, probably just SuperSyn 0w40...
