Canon S30, i need suggestions!

NEW - Canon PowerShot S30 3.1MP Digital Camera, $699 at futureshop. i can get this camera for $500 or less, its from a friend. Do i really need such good camera for just taking pictures.. i am no photographer, but it seems to be a really good deal. i am currently looking at the HP 320 2.1 mp. I mean all i really need is the HP320 nothing fancy. Now if i decide to offer him $400, with $400 what kind of digital camera can i get? i was also looking at the sony dsc - p51 $369, very small camera. hmmmm i cant decide...:dunno:

The S30 is a really good camera, I was contemplating getting it as well, I played around with one for a while and it has a lot of features the only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a little big.

The only camera i'd get for taking pics is the S200, but that will cost you around 400-450 depending where you buy it. If you can get an S30 for slightly more, go for it. The pics are better quality and it's an overall better camera.

i would get the s30 over the s200...mainly because of the higher resolution...i know resolution isnt everythign but you might want that ability to blow up your pictures. also the s30 has many more manual controls allowing you to customize your shots and such to the background...i know you only want it for simple taking pics but you might want that manual control eventually...

i have the s40, it's awesome. get the s30 for sure. if u read some reviews on it you'll see that's it one of the best in it's range

Or how about the Canon S230?

I too am looking for a digital camera.

I went to Future Shop last weekend and the guy there
showed me a 4 Mega-Pixel Pentax, it was $50 more than
the S230. 3 times optical zoom as well. S230 and S200 only
have 2 times optical zoom (correct me if I'm wrong).

I think the S230 is around $600 or so.

the s230 is a good camera as well...however the 2X optical zoom does limit it. however it has the new techonology used in the canon cameras with the DIGIC processor and 9 point autofocus...

i currently have the s45 and i love it...a little weak on the auto mode but the features are great.

i believe the pentax one you are looking at is the 430rs...not familiar with what future shop carries but the pentax is nice too...its just again missing many of the manual features a camera like the canon s30 and s45 offer.

I've used the sony p51 and really like the quality and ease of use of that camera.
