Personally cats are so much lower maintenance. I own a cat and a dog, and the cat is honestly next to the shedding, way better. Easier to deal with than the dog.

I wish i had pics of my old cat. He was kinda gimped, had a backend like a rabbit and hopped around everywhere. I found him in a box at the auction sale one saturday and felt sorry for him cause he couldn't walk. It was funny watching people stare at him when he was "running" they couldn't figure out if it was a cat or rabbit.

What's sad is this is only 4 of the 7......

http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~rowatc/pics/new/17-01-06_0713.jpg

In order, from top to bottom, we have
Squeak: 2 1/2 years old, grumpiest cat I have ever had, he's huge too
Shelby: 20-lb howitzer shell... err, we'll just call her fat cat
Twigs: ~1 year old, found her in the bushes out front one day as a little kitten
Cremona: ~18 years old, half-blind, howls all night, almost equal in grumpiness to Squeak

Speaking of lasers...

This is a clip of one of our cats. This one is crazy. Unfortunately, he doesn't chase the laser any more. It was a limited time deal I guess. He started to jump extremely high as he grew up, and I think he was hurting himself when he landed. So, I stopped doing this with him, and he stopped being interested.

BUT, here's a rather unique video.

Yep, 4 at this house, 3 at the other. At the other house we have Shadow, Snuggles and Mocha
There is a strange naming trend that I just recently noticed.....
Squeak, Snuggles, Shadow, Shelby... all S's. Oddly enough, they were the first 4 too! It wasn't until Twigs that the trend was broken, then came Mocha then Cremona. But, if you think 7 is bad, we frequently let the neighborhood cats inside when it's cold outside. At my G/F's place in forest lawn, there's lots of strays, but at my house there is just the neighbor's cat running around. Often they forget to let it inside when it gets cold, so it will come and scratch at our door.

Howls at night is an understatement.
She is 18 years old, and has the best set of lungs on her I've ever heard in a cat. Her howling is about the volume of somebody yelling. I'm not kidding.
I keep her in the room with me at night, but every now and then she gets up and howls at the door (which is open.....), so finally I go pick her up, and she will shut up for a couple hours. Usually she will then leave the room and go howl at the toilet for a while... If not the toilet, then she will howl at the sink, or one of the pictures on the wall....
She'll wake me/everybody up between 1 and 6-7 times a night... she is going to die soon, and I don't mean from age. To top it off, she will sleep for 22 1/2 hours of the day. When she's not sleeping, she's shitting, howling or chasing a ball around. I've never seen a 6-month old cat move like her, let alone an 18-year old cat. She is seriously fast when she's chasing her ball around. I think she might be dain bramaged or something. She was a street cat for quite a while, and we adopted her from the Meow foundation. When we took her, we were told she had 3-4 months to live, and to make her life comfortable. That was ~20 months ago. She's just as healthy as any of our other cats, just a little mentally unstable.

Her and the 20-pounder fight often, and she will almost never lose.

bspot, that is what my G/F says she wants to be when she gets older... watch out! ;)

also, say if i get a short haired or medium haired cat is the shedding still a major issue? and what breeds of cats will stay smallish? i dont want a massive cat more like "medium" sized, kinda inbetween kitten and 1 yr old.. ive seen some but dont know what kind they are? :dunno:

Cats will still shed either way, only way to stop that is get a hairless breed. My cats are both relatively small for being full grown. Meo is 2 and a purebred siamese and Boo is 9 months old and a farm cat, they are roughly the same size. The only thing about shedding, is that I find it is easier controlled on a longhair cat by brushing them daily. My cats are hard to brush because they both have really short hair.

Here is a video of two of our cats - the brothers when they were "kittens". Our third cat, "Bandit" can be seen in the clips. But he's not playing like these crazy cats...

So, they are small here. The video is 23 megs, but the connection is fast if you have high speed...

Heres my 3 cats.. They are all so cool. We got dexter (the pure black one) from the SPCA. If you're going to adopt please do it through them. Don't pay 300 bucks for a cat from the pet store.. We bought dexter the day he was going to be put down. We gave him a chance and he's shown us his appreciation.
Runt is 16 years old and still plays like a kitten (the one under the blanket) he's my buddy and I love him more than anything. Cassidy our tabby is just cool and nice to hug. :) He's my bog boy.

aww, dexter is cute

and yea, the SPCA is the way to go. there are too many animals and they have to kill lots of them cause no one wants them. the other good thing is that they fix them so they won't contribute to the overpopulation problem

Yes, the SPCA is a good way to go. There are a lot of different organizations out there helping save lost/unwanted/stray or cats otherwise needing to be rescued...

Our cats are rescue cats that came from the Meow Foundation. They were found, with their mother, in a Construction Site. They were eventually trapped one at a time. Unfortunately, Cotton was not trapped as quickly as his mother and brother, and had to stay out alone in the big bad world for an extra day. If you are interested in getting a cat for a pet, the Meow Foundation has a lot of cats available for adoption and has placed thousands of cats into new homes.

Here is a picture of Raime / Cotton when they were about 10 months old. [Not a great photo, but hey...]

yea meow foundation is great. they actually make sure the cats are going to good homes (this involves a lengthy application/interview process, however).

they have pictures of the available cats on their site.

Yeah the pet stores suck.. They over charge and they don't even fix the animals. I heard that sometimes they buy from the SPCA??? Then sell them at their stores? Dunno if thats true or even possible.. But I definetely think HUmane society or MEOW foundation are the right ways of getting a cat. You might be tempted to buy a kitten at the pet store cause they are so damn cute.. But people always forget that they grow up. The older cats deserve as much of a chance as the kittens.

If you choose to buy a cat at a pet store, I would recommend Petsmart. Here is a list of the partners they use to adopt animals.

Many of the partners are rescue orginizations. I got one of our cats through SNAP (picked kitty up from Petsmart) and the other through the Hervey Foundation (not though Petsmart).
