I can't think of the last time I heard of something this stupid!!

CALGARY POLICE SERVICE MEDIA RELEASE

On Monday the 10 March 2003, at approximately 1905 hrs, a 39
year old woman was operating a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass
northbound on Deerfoot Trail NE and had missed the exit for
eastbound McKnight Blvd NE. At this time, the driver of the
Oldsmobile Cutlass brought her vehicle to a stop. She then
proceeded to reverse the vehicle in the westbound McKnight
Blvd. exit lane. A 1993 Dodge Caravan operated by a 41-year
-old man, was northbound in the westbound McKnight exit lane
and attempted to avoid the Oldsmobile by swerving to the
right. He struck the Oldsmobile in a sideswipe fashion. This
forced the Oldsmobile Cutlass into the curb through lane of
Deerfoot Trail, where it was struck in the rear by a 1999
Chevrolet Cavalier operated by a 33-year-old woman, which was
traveling northbound on Deerfoot Trail NE.

The woman driver of the Oldsmobile Cutlass was transported to
the Foothills Hospital with life threatening injuries. This
driver is now listed in a serious but stable condition

I hate to sound insensitive, but WTF was she thinking, backing up an exit ramp?? She's no better than a drunk driver, because of her sheer ignorance and lack of common sense, she nearly killed herself and others. On top of that, we're all paying for it now with higher insurance thanks to those three write-offs and what will surely be astronomical medical bills. Now back to the caring side, I hope she recovers!

I was driving down deerfoot when it happened, cars backed up for miles. Had to find an alternate route to take.

On my way home like 4 hours later, they were just finishing cleaning up and towing the cutlass away, the rear end was completely missing.

Honestly, I don't feel sorry for that stupid women who got smoked, but I do feel sorry for everyone else. Come on, I mean really, what the fuck was she thinking? I really want to know what, or if anything, was going through her head when she decided to back up on deerfoot. Just when you thinking people can't get any dumber and someone pulls some senseless shit like that. Call me an ass, but thank you for natural selection!

i saw on tv once where they had videotaped cars in england with highway cameras who did stupid things on the highway.. one guy backed up half a mile cause they missed their exit..

I drove past just after it happened, Deerfoot was backed up from McKnight all the way to 32nd. the entire back half of the cutlass was smashed off the car, into little pieces, it was like it exploded right off the car, there weren't even any pieces bigger than a foot across. the cavalier and the van didn't look like they even got it that bad.

She should be charged with reckless driving, endangering others etc.
