I have a p43.0HT and when i game it restarts and crashes about ~ 1 hour
i've tried memtest (various), nothing thorough like overnight, and some weird video card test that showed nothing

any ideas?

hows your power supply and cooling?

HyperZell
02-10-2006, 09:36 AM
Step one is to download all of the latest drivers, especially for your graphics card. ATI just released Catalyst 6.2, I believe. Once that's done, you can be sure that you're not missing any simple and easy steps.

cpu runs at 40-50 i think? last i checked these run at 70 celcius
powersupply is enermax, tho i don't kno how to check for that

i just recently installed everything so the drivers are all latest from the net

Step two is to isolate the problem. What game does it crash with? All of them? Only a certain one? And, what about normal operations?

dragonone

it crashed in delta force extreme and cs: condition zero
quakeGL ran fine tho lol

download Prime95, run the In-place Large FFT under the Torture Test menu, and tell us if you get any errors within about 4-5 hours of it, and tell us the max temperature it hits.

sounds like a heat issue

has the cpu or gpu been overclocked?
ram overvolted?

dragonone

i have no idea if it's been overclocked or overvolted, i bought this thingi used
but from the bios it seems everything is normal?
and from ati, the internal clocks are at default i believe

but cool program the prime95
i got two errors, but i don't know what they mean

Test1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFt length.
FATAL ERROR: rounding was 0.4921875, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file. (which didn't help much)
Torture test ran 2 mintues - 1 errors, 0 warnings
execution halted

self-test 8k passed
10k passed
12k passed
then:
Test3, 38000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M282625 using 14K FFt length.
FATAL ERROR: rounding was 0.498046875, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file. (which didn't help much)
Torture test ran 54 mintues - 1 errors, 0 warnings
execution halted

i know there's something wrong, but i'm not too sure as to how to isolate the problem or how to identify them

Did you run the test I asked you to? The rounding errors are mathematical errors either coming from your CPU, or the math co-processor.

If you did, then the problem is that your CPU is a busted POS. Secondarily, it could be the motherboard crapping out, but the test I suggested isolates your CPU very well.

Also, what kind of powersupply are you using?

take your processor and plug it in another mb.

your processor at stock speeds can't even run for 1 hour and it already gets a error...

thats not a good sign already,

i do a little overclocking to about 2.56 ghz on my 2.0 ghz processor and i can run prime 95 stable for 24 hours.

but like Shrad said, i think it could be 75 % chance its your processor and about 25 % your mb.

hopefully its your mb since its cheaper.

but check to see if your processor still has warrenty if it is your processor.

hm... i don't know what to think
not that the processor had these wrong caculations during this stress test, and not to be evident elsewhere, even when i encoded mpg1 or mpg2's (which uses the cpu heavily i presume)

maybe i should take it to memxpress for them to do a thorough test
i bought this sys used from a fellow beyond member, i don't know what he'd do if i was in his position either
he told me he bought the processor from a futureshop worker's deal and thus doesn't have a receipt from it (i said ok to that so i guess that was stupid)

everything works fine until i game~~
i can burn dvd's, d/l, watch movies, extract stuff, encode stuff just fine

i'm kinda stumped

check your powersupply, maybe it does not have enough wattage to run all your stuff under high load for long time

cpu sounds like it's dieing
try giving it alittle mroe voltage to test it out

this was my old machine. i honestly never overclocked it or even tinkered around with it. i just left all the bios stuff as it came from the factory.

this machine never ever gave me one problem. i flashed the bios once and the videocard bios was updated i think but i played halo, doom3 (or 4 or whatever), hl2 and never had a problem.

the hard drive i sold with the pc isn't the one i had my os on. i kept that sata drive.

i bought the futureshop mobo/cpu/xp deal from my buddy Ed the SOHC (username). the p4 cpu on the recipt is actually in my grand parents pc, along with the intel board i got with the deal. i kept the p4c chip for my machine.

the 1gig of ddr400 dual channel kit is only about 6 weeks old also. the 512dc kit i bought with the pc.

i really don't know what the problem is your running into. this thing really never gave me any trouble, and was mostly used for web surfing :dunno:

Could be a RAM issues as well, ^^ mentions 1 gig ddr400 and also the 512dc kit. I have had computers crash like this because of mixed ram. Pull the 512 out and give er a go

well i'm bringing it to memxpress later and i'll post up the results in a bit=) thnx for the help so far

yes could definately be a bad piece of ram as well
when i got my comp it would run sometimes for a good day or so and when i tried to run a game or something it would just restart itself

see if your memory test during boot up checks out okay.
