I was wondering what most of you do with it.
I have been reading that some people take them out to reduce weight, for quicker starts and better gas mileage.

For the little amount of performance gains it doesn't make sense to take it out permanently. But if you were to go to a track day or some other racing event. I woud take it out once I got there, and put it back in once I was done.

i say if you have AMA, then why not

leave the donut in.. you'll regret it when you have to call ama when it's -20 and they are an hour behind.. plus.. ama doesnt bring you a tire... they tow your car.. so you still gotta get the tire changed anyways.... for the weight of the tire, tell your gf to lose 15 lbs and it evens out.

i take mine out, my subwoofers kind of outweigh my full size spare by a little, plus with the car i have i would just rather have it towed over to a tire shop and have it done. (rims cost 600 a piece and would look silly if i had a spare tire on for a few days.

though on my corolla, it dosn't leave the house without having a spare in the trunk.

There is no point of taking it out , unless your going to be tracking or racing. Performance gains? No. Better gas? Yah right lol
It doesnt weigh to much , and with all the construction going on around the city , its easy to get a flat.

the cheapest way to increase times at the track is weight reduction. take 'er out! also gets in the way for stealth stereo installs

dude, maybe if you took out your whole interior except the drivers seat and the dash would it make a difference. anyways, you never know when your going to get a flat and the last thing you want is to be put in that situation without a spare.

i would like to get one of thoese Custom spare tire subs thoese are sweet. But that would be alot heavyer then the spare.
I am keeping my spare in untill i get said sub. Oh btw today i added a jack to my trunk Thought it might be a good idea to have one, seeing that i have a tire in there :D

take it out at the track, but leave it in for normal driving. After all, never know when you will need it.

I know what he is talking about..

if you are worried about weight, why would you take out the spare, and add more weight witha sub?

my sub weighs less than my spare :P full size spares :D when my tires get a little older i'll put the spare in.

yup, leave it in, my winter tire got a nail in it, and it would have been fine if I had realized sooner, but by the time I realized my car was pulling a LOT to the left there was almost no air in the tire and the firewall had been destroyed.
Now I gotta fork over almost 250$ for a new tire, if I had realized and put my spare on, it would have been a 20$ fix.
:banghead:

15 lb...honestly, just clean out all the trash from your car and you'll save tha tmuch weight.

I leave mine in. I've needed a spare doughnut a couple of times.

I leave mine in the back just cuz u never know if ur gonna get a flat...my car is my daily driver so i think the weight in the back helps my ass from swaying out too much (ah rwd!)

I drive a MINI, so I don't have the luxury of having a spare tire....

I carry the following...
1 - runflat tires (for now until I replace the stock tires)
2 - Can of tire slime/foam
3 - Compressor
4 - AMA membership

I took mine out to put my false floor in for my subs. I don't really ever take my car out of the city, so if I get a flat I'm always only so far away from my spare. Of course there was that time on the highway.... 5 am half way to Turner valley, that's when you find out who your REAL friends are!!! If I was going on a long trip I'd probably throw it in the back seat just for peace of mind.
