IS300 or WRX?

K....i gotta buy a newer car and looking at either a 2001 Lexus IS300 or a 2002 Subaru WRX. Both are fairly close in price....so what would be the better option?? Any comments appreciated!

The is300 is okay but I would never buy a 2001 since it was only available as an automatic that year...

I had a 04 IS300 (MT), sold it and bought a 05 WRX.

Depending on what you have in mind. I really liked the IS300, its pretty fast, handles extremely well, and very nice in and out. But for me I wanted more performance, and the IS300 wasn't very tuner friendly (trust me I researched for a long time).

For the WRX... I can do a lot more, which I did and I'm loving it. Plus I can drive it all year round.

Stock vs stock, the IS300 is actually in the same D Stock class (auto-x) as the WRX. The IS300 actually won some national events in the U.S.

So my opinion would be if you are going to keep it stock, go with the IS300. If you plan to mod it up, go with the WRX.

I would get the is300 only if you can get a 5speed, but 5speeds are next to imposible to come buy

02 WRX's had quite a few problems with them, including glass transmissions that had to be replaced at less than 70,000 km. I would go with the is300

IS300's got more class/luxury imo! But then again it all depends on what you looking for. I really don't like Subaru's including wrx's even though they are really nice cars. I would rather have the IS300 drop it and throw it on some dubz...should look sick!

between those two its a tough call
the 01 doesnt come in a manual transmission and i personally dont like the bug eyed look of the 02 wrx

just depends on what you want. a more performance oriented car or a more luxurious car

Get the IS300 and then drop in an MKIV Supra engine :thumbsup:

Too bad the L-tuned kit is discontinued, really enhances the IS300's look. 01's automatics has really sluggish throttle response, get an 02 in manual. Also considering the WRX has gone through two face lifts already, definitely the IS, it still looks good (I'm not a fan of the bug eye).

they're 2 different cars though. luxury vs. speed.

if you want a classy looking car, definitely the is300. if you want speed and don't mind a so-so interior, then wrx!

IS300 is a better car. It'll hold it's value alot better compared to the WRX too.

Depending on what it will get used for most of the time you should get that car. If you need to drive people around that needs a professional opinion of you you'll need the IS300

myself, I would get the WRX. But I'm biased and I don't care what other people think.

Seriously though, I would go for the IS300 just because of the class - it brings you up to a luxury-level car while still staying youthful and quick. Yeah, the WRX for performance, but it depends on what you're looking for...
