Pro's and Con`s

I know the Subaru WRX has power, but what kind of safety features does it excel in? Is it a well built car? What are some of the problems have they been having?

The 1.8T engine producing 180HP that can easily be chipped -- is it REALLY worth it?

The new VR6 24V producing 201HP -- is it tried and true like the 12V?

Thanks for your help everyone... I need to take my mind of the past few days... and well... car shopping will do that for me!

Stay VW man, you poured your heart and soul into that car, websites galore, and come on, you know you liked your car...

Go with a GTI 1.8T, its a different style, different motor, but all and the one the same familiar car.

The Subaru Impreza is the top ranked small car on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety charts. Your Jetta is ranked 7th out of 15.

i'm going to have to say wrx or 1.8t. factory turbo cars a are sweeet...:bigpimp:

EDIT: also get insurance quotes on each of these cars before you decide. wrx may be safe but its powerful stock. expect to pay $6000-$8000 per year if your under 21.

I would pick the WRX but its up to you. The WRX is one amazing machine, I had so much fun test driving it. If it wasn't for my dad getting 03 Forester and my sister driving a 01 2.5RS, I might of went for the WRX instead of the 323I.

How about the new Audi A4?

the carbon lights are actually kinda ug I think....the JDM STi lights those are a different story! But way overpriced especially for the HIDs...

The WRX is a quite well engineered machine, very safe in accidents. I've seen countless pictures of the wankers who go out and buy the car then crash it right away because they think they are colin mcrae and though the cars are incredibly roughed up (many of them rolled) everyone is walking away with minimal injuries. The fit and finish of the car won't be as good as the VW though. I personally like the WRX interiors, they are simple and attractive, with a good logical layout. The only real thing that is a point against the WRX is the price, the jetta isn't a cheap car but the WRX is several grand more expensive still. If you are going to look at a WRX, wait a couple of months for the 2003s to come out (end of august or so). Its getting mighty hard to find 2002s now.

i think wrx would be a little better for where we live. cause i mean we get snow more than 6 months a year. AWD is sweet in snow. drive into a empty parking lot and pull a bunch of nuts. fun fun fun. hehe.

Peter, I think you should get another Volkswagen, I know VW owners love thier cars, but you took it to a new extreme! . But just to try something different get the 1.8t Jetta, Since you didnt seem to have any luck with the making the VR6 fast:rofl::rolleyes: J/k man! Everyone knows how easy it is to do Performance upgrades to those enignes, so why not give it a shot? just my $0.2. :burnout:

It all depends on what you want. Performance or nice fit-and-finish.

If you feel the need for speed and some mad handling, then there is no choice other than WRX!! My only gripe is the lack of quality in their interior design. Those who have been in both will know what I mean. :burnout:

If you won't drive that fast and just want a nice quality ride with a nice quality interior, then stick with VW. Sure, you can mod the VW, but you can mod the shit out of it and the WRX will still take you to the cleaners. Besides, whatever you can mod on the VW turbo, you can do the equivalent mod on the WRX and produce greater output! ..oh, and did I mention 4-wheel drive is KING!

Basically, they are two very different cars, and it all depends on your driving style. Good luck!

Oh yeah, and "Friends don't let friends drive AUTOMATICS"!!

I hate to say this, but I wouldn't mind driving an automatic WRX, and here's why. The car likes to cruise at around 2000 rpm or so. When you stop on the gas, it takes about a second for the car to come on boost, in that same second the tranny has kicked down a gear and is ready to play. The car just takes off like a missile from there, it was pretty cool.

i agree with you since i drive an automatic. the wrx automatic has a very advanced traction system. its rear wheel biased. hard to explain so anyone that wants to know more about it might wnt to do a search on i-club. i think i would pick a 5 speed wrx over an automatic because the more advanced your tranny is the more $$$ its going to cost when it breaks down. also you can't control when the car upshifts/downshifts. left foot braking will help but you still can't predict it sometimes.
