so i just bought a pack of 50 cds and at the till the lady tells me there is a 10 dollar government levy put on recordable cds and dvds. so instead of 20 bucks it cost me 30, i dont mind paying the extra 10 bucks if it goes back to the artists, but has anyone else heard of this? cause this was the first time for me:dunno: :dunno:

Thats why you dont buy them at places like london drugs. Future shop etc, dont charge the levy to the customers

LD shows the surcharge separatelly whereas future shop builds it into the price. In the end you pay the same...

Actually FS eats the cost of the surcharge, or most of it, last time I bought cd-rs they were way cheaper at fs for the same ones.

Plus whatever price you see at fs or best buy is what you will be paying at the till, so you can use your discretion before hand.

I just compared 50 packs on the FS website and most are 28-29 bux so about the same what the guy here paid at LD. I have a tough time believing that LD would still be in business of selling blank CD/DVDs if their stuff was 50% more then any other store :dunno:

*COUGH!* memory express *COUGH!*

MemEx doesn't charge the surcharge as it is ****NOT**** mandatory to charge it if you are a wholesaler, and I don't think it's mandatory to charge it even if you're a retailer.

100 CD-R's for less than $20 baby! 50 DVD-R's for less than $30! MemEx is the ONLY place I will buy pretty much anything computer related apart from games.

You could also check out Tiger Direct (http://www.tigerdirect.ca) they have some good prices as well.

I've heard this was suppose to be in place already. I've never been charged a surcharge on media yet. I've bought from FS/BB and Memory Express.

That's because these other places build it into the price. :banghead:

Yeah Costco had a levy on their ipods which means they are the same price there as anywhere else.
