i am looking into buying new subs for my car, and i am looking for something that is loud but clear at the same time, i have 1 type R 10" right now but i want something that carries farther and sounds a bit clearer, i find that type R's always sound a bit muffled, in any inclosure... any suggestions, i was thinking of a solobaric L7, boston acoustic 10.5, type X or a w7 :dunno:

I've had an L5, L7 and a w7. All 3 sound great even when the headunit volume was cranked. Obviously the w7 was the best sounding, but pretty pricey too and for the little sound difference noticed between the L5 and L7, the L5 was the better bang for the buck.

Best subs... IMO focal if you're willing to spend the money, but a good amp also makes a world of difference.

How about some 6,000 watt IASCA & Termpro world record holding DD 9512's?

probably the most musically accurate subwoofer myself of this audio guru (with 35 years experience) has ever seen.... ever.

each one will do 152db's easily. For a single 12, with about 4000 watts.. thats nuts.

$400 each.

there are TONS of amazing subs.
Image Dynamics is incredible... they make great stuff for a great price.

I have a few subs, if your interested.

I dont know what the best is but if i were to buy some subs they would be:

Image Dynamics IDMAX12
Digital Designs 9512
or
JL audio 12W7

Best three subs I have come across.

You do realize that more comes into play than just the max watt output on your sub right? If you have shitty wiring or a less than great amp, upgrading your sub will be a waste of time and money.

Take all the advice on this thread with a grain of salt considering half the suggestions of what sub to buy are really just people trying to sell their stuff to you.

I think the Boston 10.5 are one of the best sounding subs for the average guy. They definetly sound better than the new Boston G2, and G5. But they are hard to find. I also like the MTX 7500 series. The are also a nice tight sounding sub with a lot of output.

I am not in retail whatsoever so you can my advise or leave it. It makes no difference to me. My suggestion is to do your own research and read reviews from CREDIBLE sources.

Oh, and RE stands for Resonant Engineering i believe. And just a shot in the dark here, but my guess is that you didnt even try www.reaudio.com did you?

posts like this are so stupid, everyone has the best sounding sub TO THEM, just go and listen to as many as you can and bring music you know, but don't be afriad to listen to the music the sales guy has, if it's a good recording.

anything is an upgrade from a Type R 10"

but the subs you have listed stretch in price from like $120 each to $500 just on eBay... what is your price point? Cost no object, get a 12W7 and call it at that, but it you appreciate your money check into internet brands that only sell factory direct...
Resonant Engineering - big power handling, simple understated styling, and a great sound - http://www.reaudio.com/
Adire Engineering - invented the technology Resonant use, but their subs are ugly, and pricey, but sound otherwise identical - http://www.adireaudio.com/ (I think)
Elemental Designs - of the three here, this one is by far my favorite, more impact then the Adire and RE offerings, much cheaper, still handle a lot of power, they have one inch oversized cones on all models, and play in madly tiny boxes. Critically adored by the guys at Performance Auto and Sound magazine (pasmag.com). http://www.edesignaudio.com/

I've got one right now, actually interested in selling it ... for like $125. PM me if you are interested, but of all the subs I've had so far this elemental is my favorite... over Phoenix Gold Xmax/titanium/xenons, Kicker Solo L5s and the old round ones, anything Rockford has ever made... so on ..

Thanks for the offer, but as i'm a student i'm broke as hell right now. And will probably buy one of those deals they have on there site for a Sub amp combo, at the end of the summer of course, when i have excess cash.

Digital Designs makes some beautiful woofers. Some of the most accurate and hard hitting drivers i've heard in a long time.

DD's sound pretty good.
Not the best SQ on them in the world... but they can hang with the rest of them, certainly with any Alpine sub... you just need to put them in the right enclosure.

And one things for certain, DD's sure hit hard!

What about ED guys, they were mentioned above, do they rate up there with the pro's?

I have a 12" W7, theyre beautiful but omg if you have the money for the sub you need to have at least double that for the amp needed to run it, my amp 3500$ (2400$ after discount), sub 1200$. Unbelievable. But then again so is the sound

I've gotten out and about in the mobile electronics industry and I still stand by my previous statement.

I have owned a pair of JL13W7 and Kicker SoloXs, the 18s and 12s.
I've gone through Memphis, Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Macrom, Kicker, JL, AVI, Alumapro, Blaupunkt, DEI, RF, Rockwood, MB Quartz, MTX PG, and JVC systems.

I've retailed many of these products over the last decade of working in the industry.

I've installed many of these products over the last decade.

I've written about these products in various automotive publications.

I think i've gotten out more than i should already.
