Not sure if it's considered a hatchback but there was the E36 short trunk model, it looked really funny, I think it only came as a 318 or something.

I think it looks quite good. But yea expensive for what they gonna be. Civic styling bmw price tag.

yeap, 318ti..i've driven one pretty extensively...zippy and good for weaving in and out of traffic in Vancouver..though I wouldn't want one personally...

They never sold the E46 318's here,

but the E36 yes
