i don't know if there is a thread on this yet but you need more posts for the higher gears now. I was 3rd gear before i went to mexico and now i am back down to 2nd. just wondering what happened there.

Yeap...everybody came down I guess. Posts count have been increased per gear. I came down two gears as well....even though I thought it would be only one according to the new post counts too. lol...i just noticed too..Kenny became a newbie! :D But I guess he can change his to whatever he wants though eh...

My guess is kenny changed some rules around (other areas that used to count) and recalculated the total post count. We don't delete old posts/threads.

This is what happened over the last few days:

When someone on the admin team (in this case it was me) changes whether or not posts in a certain forum count toward the users post count, the software does not automatically change each users post count.

Also, when threads that originate in a section where posts do count are moved to a section that does not count, post counts again are not immediately changed on your user profile. I decided to update the db with actual figures yesterday.

If your post count dropped significantly, it means you post a lot of off topic type stuff and not real automotive content.

this might not be the EXACT reason...but usually why post counts decrease...

My post count didn't decrease, only my gears. Who wants to change my gear to finnish flash or flying finn? I don't like gears, I don't want to be judged by my post count, rather by how awesome I am.

well Kenny did make ratio changes...so my post doesn't truly apply...haha...BUT having said that.

Forums that don't count are lounge areas...

Wow, I lost a couple of gears there. Any reason for the change? It's not like we've got too many long-standing members on the site...

(Some of us just aren't cool enough to have custom titles, so we need our Gears to feel good about ourselves.) ;)

^Word what does it matter anyways? As long as you have the priveledge of posting in the forums. I mean its just a freakin gear which appears under your name. Not really a big deal in my opinion.

I dont really understand the whole drama behind the gear ratings. What does it really matter??

I mean just post how you all have already been posting whats the big deal??

It doesn't really matter, however your "gear rating" can be an indication of how much you contribute to the community. New users can ask the high-gear guys questions about Beyond, etc. The reason I was wondering why it happened was because it seemed like an odd, random thing to do. All significant changes made to Beyond since I joined have been accompanied by an explanative thread in the Suggestion area, yet this change affected almost every user and was done without any other explanation than "Gear ratios changed :) ". It just seemed a bit atypical of the Beyond administration to do something like that.

its cause i don't feel special anymore

jk, but BerserkerCatSplat is right. an explaination would be nice because the gear thing did show how you contributed to the community. plus most people don't stay here long enough to make it past 3rd gear. Personally i would either get rid of the gear thing like how alex suggested or maybe once you hit a certain amount of posts you get to custom your title like in alot of other forums.
