I was stopping by China Rose today to pick up some take-out, and I spotted this in the parking lot...
I have never seen an Edsel before. From the looks of things, it had some kind of cab equipment located up front attached to the dash, perhaps it used to be a cab?

Here's the pics. I thought it was a pretty cool car.

Nah, it's a painted lime-green metal box with a big flap on the top, and coin slots in it. My G/F's mom was with me and remembers there being cabs lke that, and claims that is the little box that tells you what you owe for the trip.
I'm not old enough to know for sure.

No offense to the owner, but it is ugly, none the less I have never seen one before, and my hat is off to the guy for keeping it. It's in rather nice shape (has one tape tail light, some faded paint, but other than that is nice), and is still running.

The interior is 2 shades of green, lime green and forest green, I tried to show it in the one pic, but sorry they are all from my camera phone, so they didn't come out how I thought they would.

Those cars were Ford's biggest flop from 1940-1970. They lost incredible amounts of money with that disaster, Ugly and im-pracitical for the time, sales number were horrid, seeing those on the roads is REALLY rare, those are very rare cars (piss poor sales had a lot to do with the phenominon 50 years later)

I spotted it in my driveway ;)
The late fifties cars had some crazy designs.
The Edsel wasn't a bad car mechanically, there was a recession in 1958 when the Edsel was introduced, so that was another factor for its poor sales. Many other car companys suffered that year but not as much as the Edsel.

I love Edsels, my great uncle back in Manitoba has 5 or 6 of the things. Sure, they were a flop, but they're actually pretty good cars!

ummm they werent really flops, ford cancelled production on them, so they guy made 50 to sell to the public, so sales werent bad if he sold 100% of them.

I know! And it took days before anybody really paid attention, lol.
I thought I would show everybody how it's done ;)

Seriously though, when I first saw it I wasn't impressed, but every time I look at it, I like it more. My hat is off to the owner of that vehicle.

I am trying to figure out of the license plate means anything, but I have no idea. Were there possibly 501 made?...

If there really were that few, no wonder I have never seen one before, and that makes this spotting all the more interesting.
