I've heard that most cars with boost have these VAFC's and such, but would it do anything for a N/A car?

Yes it would! Have you ever felt VTEC kick in at a lower RPM? Its really cool!!

I have no vtec though?

heheheh eerrrr. with NA cars it helps a bit I think 'cause if you have a good I/H/E system, you are getting more Air into the engine but may not have the same balance / efficient of fuel into the system.. so it does help I believe..

and as of low RPM VTEC, doesn't that make your high RPM power not as powerful?

Damn grammar..sorry workign and listening and typing at the same time....

Unless you plan on hooking it up to a wideband o2 and/or dyno tuning, I wouldn't bother. Without a wideband you would just be guessing as to how much fuel you need to add/remove and your ass dyno is just not accurate enough to optimize your vtec actuation point.

If you plan on tuning, then yes it would be useful.

I don't have Vtec...my engine is the b18b. Is there any use for it since I don't have any FI and no Vtec? Are they hard to tune?

Might want to check with Legend Boy too, 'cause he have an ol'school Apexi AFC in his car.. he can tell you more as to the effect and setup.

Thats exactly who i had in mind since he has one and the same engine as mine also. Does Legendboy's do the same as the newer ones with the hot graphical interface?

I have an apexi afc, if u have i/h/.etc... u are getting more air and the ecu is giving more fuel but not much past the stock maps,( i think) an afc allows u to tune the fuel as u wish. more air + more fuel = more power

i have the vafc from what i am told it makes a difference

Hey Corey did you install it yourself or did you have someone tune it for you? I have all those mods (I/H/E), but have you noticed a worthwhile gain (500 bucks is what i'm looking at for one of those). Are they worth it?

hmmm good question ... to spend 500 bucks more on a N/A B18B.... or save it up for a turbo (which gets bigger gains...)

Well, I installed it myself but I haven't tuned it yet really. As Archie said, the ass dyno is not really the way to go, I won't dyno unitl I get my new engine in and I am going to get a new SAFC since I have different plans than when I bought the one I have now. AFC II has +15 & -12% I need the new one so I can run about -40% (+ - w/diff rpm) with bigger injectors. If I crank the fuel I get better top end pull, that much I can feel. If u want mine I'll sell it and install it for u if u want.

The SAFC lets you adjust fuel by 40%!! That's awesome.

with a intake and exhaust, my car runs nasty rich in the higher rpm's. i use a crappy autometer guage to tune the afc(field hyper-r) it isn't as accurate as a wideband on a dyno but its good enough if you just have mild bolt ons.

Yup. It will be good enough to rough tune for WoT anyways which is really all you need with minor bolt-ons.

Yup that's true. It will be good enough to rough tune for WoT anyways which is really all you need with minor bolt-ons. Setting the optimal vtec actuation point is extremely easy on a dyno. For $85 you can see how much power your car puts out AND set the optimal vtec point. Sounds like a great deal to me.

would a hondata do any good if i allready have the vcfa? or whatever its called

legendboy
07-10-2002, 05:43 PM
Hondata would definately be a step up. Its like a standalone computer system that uses the stock ecu. Apexi vafc is for adjusting air/fuel and vtec. thats it. Its ether or. If u get hondata sell me your vafc please!

With a hondata, you won't need the VAFC. Also, hondata is not a true standalone. It's more like a super piggy-back, which has it's pluses and minuses.

I don't remember exactly how much my clutch was. I think it was around $800 but I'm not sure.
