Start spreading the news...
I’m leaving today...
I want to be a part of it,
New york, new york!

You walk into this little piano bar and suddenly you have the compulsion to jump on top of one and start dancing. The people around you are having a great time, and in the left corner you've got two pianists going at it, singing and playing like it's their first time out.

Suddenly you feel kind of like Frank himself, with the pinstripe suit and the bowler hat. You take a seat at a nice table, and order you and your date a dry gin martini, 2 olives. Now we're getting classy, real classy.

You open the menu, and see that it's probably one of the smallest menu's you've seen in a long time. That's just fine, though, because you didn't come here to eat. Your date orders a salad, and so do you.

Your martini's arrive and you're captivated by the stunning blonde you came in with, all the while the pianists are playing good old crooner classics - Bennet, Sinatra, and Cohen. You start feeling the need to dance; that martini went down nice and easy.

Your date escorts you to the floor, you start to move a bit. You haven't dance like this in a while; this isn't hip hop, this is flat out big band and you're having a blast. You take a minute, and order another martini.

As the night goes on you make your way to a series of comfortable couches, located in a little nook just off to the side. The girl of your dreams is sitting on your left, and to your right is a massive flat-screen TV playing something or other- you're not really paying attention, anyway.

Your date starts drumming up a conversation, and you start to get a little bit closer. Suddenly, on a whim, you hear Michael Buble. This is almost too perfect.

Never know how much I love you...
Never know how much I care...
When you put your arms around me,
I get a fever that’s so hard to bear.

It's exciting, it's romantic, it's absolutely the perfect second date. The two of you leave the bar and go for a stroll down Macleod. This location is perfect - Southland Drive and Macleod Trail - so why aren't there more people around?

It doesn't matter. What matters is that you and your date went out dancing, for dinner, and a lounge... all to the tune of some very well performed Big Band favourites.

I could be wrong, but that sounds like a winning combination to me.

5/5.

New York, New York's is a pretty fun and rowdy place to be. You're actually encouraged to jump on the tables and start dancing around! haha. I went a couple months ago and had a blast. I woke up with The Proclaimer's "1000 Miles" stuck in my head though. Worse than a hangover...

Another alternative is Aussie Rules (though I've never been), but I heard it's much harder to get into because of advanced reservations. The performers at New York, New York have been know to play at Aussie Rules anyways.

Yea, I can see that. I didn't go down there for food though, I was in the mood to hear some of my big band favourites.

I've been to both and I enjoyed Aussie Rules better.. The food is crazy expensive at New York New York compared to Aussie Rules..

And when I was at NYNY, the crowd wasn't as rowdy as when I was at Aussie Rules.. we were on our chairs, screaming, following the moves of one piano man, etc.. there were more interaction in Aussie Rules and I had more fun there (Although Aussie Rules doesn't have a dance floor).

I was especially impressed at this one Aussie Rules Piano guy, when someone requested a rap song for 20 bucks.. and he busted out Without Me while playing the tune on the piano.. it was awesome.
