Here's a thread (for those of us who aren't obsessed with the Flames) to share the news of this years deadline. There's not a huge amount of hype surrounding this years trade deadline, but we'll see what pans out. (hoping for Barret Jackman to the Leafs:thumbsup: )

Minnesota Wild trade Dwayne Roloson to Oilers for 2006 1st Round Pick

Boston Bruins aquire Marius Czerkawski off waivers

(hoping for Barret Jackman to the Leafs )

The leafs need so much more then Jackman to get into the playoffs. IF, and thats a big if, they make it into the first round, they'll be swept.

Its been a quiet day so far, I was expecting more than the Dwayne Roloson trade by this point.

In my opinion, tomorrow will not be 1/2 as busy as it has in the past. The annual blockbusters by teams like Colorado, Detroit, etc is a thing of the past. A lot of teams are restricted by the cap, but I'm still excited for tomorrow.

good idea for the thread. Better than seeing 10 separate transaction threads. Hopefully we'll see some action tomorrow.

And I think there was a conditional 3rd round draft pick going to Minnesota too.

The conditional pick is a third rounder if Roloson re-signs with Edmonton.

The Washington Capitals are erring on the side of caution with Brendan Witt.

Virtually certain to be traded by the Caps before Thursday's 3pm et deadline, Washington will keep the defenceman out of Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins as a precaution.

Because Theodore has overstayed his welcome in Montreal and wasn't producing at the level he should have been.

Aebischer is having a MUCH better season than Theodore and if the Canadiens make it into the playoffs I'm sure they want Aebischer in net and not Huet and certaintly not a cold goaltender like Theodore.

mac_82
03-08-2006, 07:03 PM
It also frees up almost 3 million in salary for Montreal.... maybe they will try to pursue someone like Bertuzzi if the rumours are true....

i can definitely see the upside for montreal...but why are the avs willing to pay more to take a chance on theodore?

because they were never happy with Aebischer. although he has picked up his play recently, they were playing Budaj and 3rd stringer Kolesnik a lot before xmas. this gives colorado their first proven #1 goalie since Roy retired.

Nissanaddict
03-08-2006, 07:14 PM
Whatever LaCroix is smoking, I want some. What was wrong with Aebischer? And in Montreal's position, I'd try to get a decent backup, and deal out Theodore and maybe get an extra skater out of it, or a draft pick. Weird. I don't get why Colorado would do that.

***Latest Flames Rumour***

Flames make offer for Mike York

The Flames have made an offer for Islanders center Mike York. A source close to the Flames reports Sutter has offered a prospect and a draft pick.

Sutter has also been talking to Thrashers GM Don Waddell (Savard) and Panthers GM Mike Keenan. (Jokey)

More Trade Rumours can be found here (http://insidethecode.blogspot.com/)

Habs make offer for Bertuzzi, Cujo might be Vancouver-bound, Theodore trade rejected by Canucks.....

Team_Mclaren

WOW, That Aves trade is insane. But then again, the AVES always wants a high profile goalie. and Theodore is just that. I do believe that he is only having a bad season, but the ability is still there. Huge gamble for sure, and its sad to see Aebischer go.

A2VR6
03-08-2006, 10:42 PM
I think Colorado is hoping for another "Patrick Roy" when they traded for Theodore. Even though I highly doubt this will happen Aebischer has been kinda inconsistant for the Avs. For a strech of games he would play amazing only to go cold for a another strech of games.

Yea I was thinking the same... Theo cant play until the end of the month so 3 weeks w/o there new No. 1 guy is iffy IMO!

it might not be loungo like i thought but theodore isnt to bad.. i think the cnage in scenery will do him good! but budaj taking the ropes while the avs have critical games comeing up is nuts!

Wow, Mike York wouldnt be that bad of an addition... Damn it sutter, make a trade already and stop making us guess!! I kind of doubt bertuzzi will be traded. Marc Crawford has said this is the last season he will keep this core together unless they win a cup, or go deep into the playoffs.

If we can get York or Jokinen for player not in our lineup and pick I'll be extremely happy.

Also St.Louis IS NOT gonna trade Barrett Jackman lol... he's awesome, why would they trade him lol.

And one last thing... like you guys have said... i though Theodore is done for the year? If thats the case Budaj cant handle the job.... likely to see Colorado get another goalie maybe? i dunno.

A fire sale of their old, overpayed players.

There not trading away there current/future stud defenceman lol. Thats just wishfull thinking from a Leafs fan :D Although I'm sure St.Louis would make that trade for.... oh, lets say, Wade Belak and a 4th rought pick. Or straight up for Antropov lol

usually when people have a goalie problem... they bring in a goalie

i dont see how it wont fix their probs, they were running off a backup and a 3rd stringer

Roloson, 36, was 6-17 with a 3.00 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage in a backup role behind Manny Fernandez

Team_Mclaren
03-09-2006, 12:41 AM
I dont consider Roloson as a backup. He's save percetage is .910. thats pretty damn good in the new NHL. I do believe that he's the answer to Edm's goalie problem

buh_buh
03-09-2006, 01:04 AM
WTF is Colorado thinking? If they're looking for a Roy replacement, good luck. Goaltenders of his caliber don't just grow from trees in Montreal. Theodore is almost 3 seasons removed from his Hart trophy year, and his play since his Hart trophy year have been pretty shaky. And on top of that, he's supposed to be out hurt until end of April.

So they help pick up Theodore's fat contract, trade away their starting goaltender who's been getting hot of late for an injured one, and has to rely on an unproven Budaj right in the middle of a tight playoff race they might not even make now. Budaj hasn't been bad, but I'm not sure if he's ready to start on a regular basis.

This is the perfect opportunity though for Theodore to regain his confidence. The Avs don't need a spectacular goaltender to win games. But its still a huge risk, especially with that contract.

Montreal seemed pretty content with Huet's play, and adding Aebischer actually helps out their goalie situation a bit (if they decide to hang onto him). This could also be somewhat of a salary dump for a bigger fish too.

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenceman Todd Simpson from the Chicago Blackhawks for a sixth round raft pick in 2006.

The New Jersey Devils continued to bolster their blueline, acquiring defenceman Brad Lukowich from the New York Islanders for a third-round pick in 2006.

Exactly.

Roloson is an All-Star goalie who has been #1 until the late developing Fernandez took the top spot.

Edmonton has been finding ways to win without steals from their goalies. With a number one goalie who can win them games???

Look out boys, Edmonton's making a run.

Reminds me of the Kiprusoff for a 2nd rounder deal in 03-04. He had minimal playoff experience (4 games) and ended up taking the Flames to the Cup finals. Lightning usually doesn't strike twice but Vancouver is certainly hoping it does.

Sutter hasn't exactly left it to the last minute, so far he has picked up:

Boucher, Leclerc, Huselius, and Hulse.

They are all players that will help us huge down the stretch. By picking up a dman like Hulse early, Sutter avoided a last minute deadline deal where he might have had to give up a 2nd round pick as opposed to a minor league scrapper (Cam Severson).

Florida had to sign Jokinen. Without Jokinen, there would be no chance at Luongo, and without Jokinen and Luongo, they'd be back at square one. Good move by Florida imo giving Jokinen a big contract. They're finally starting to get out of their rebuilding stage.
