Well I decided to go all out on this car. My goal is about 850-900 RWHP... So I decided to go a bit JDM because of the VVTi (Vtec)

VVT-i-(Toyota)
Is a on the fly computer controlled adjustable cam gear. Operated by the Controller (gear) and controller valve (the oil control mechanism).

2001 2JZ Twin Turbo VVTi Supra engine.

I've never even heard of that engine? What years were VVT-i offererd?

JAYMEZ

It was only offered on JDM engines 1998-2001 I believe.
But the NA US Supra has VVTi.

^^ Blah Motec . I get my Autotronics from Australia next week. New fuel system is going in as well.

Z_Fan
03-08-2006, 07:22 PM
Hahha, that's not competition for the Z.

A 850-900rwhp Supra will destroy the Z. That's competition for Toma or other 9 second and faster cars.

Jaymez, i seriously that its going ot hold the 800 whp back. many users on the forums usually ditch that system as well as the sequential turbo system. And what are you doing with your old engine? im in the market for one :D

The nice thing about the vvti engine is that it comes with a MAP setup instead of a MAF setup. Makes life much easier for tuning. The vvti tuning is tricky from what I've heard, mixed success stories.

Im gonna be tuning one of these in a non Toyota if the guy sticks to his plans :D.

I am a noob when it comes to these cars but according to the specs from the cams to the fuel system, the US model looks to be a better platform from which to built. VVT-i isn't really going to make it any easier to meet you lofty HP goals as it's more of an optimizer for daily driving. Or am I wrong?:dunno:

i beleive these japanese engines were rated at the maximum 280hp but actaully put down a whole lot more.

Not true. Here's a list of the major differences with the JDM VVTi vs the USDM motors:

The JDM motors had 280hp. USDM motors had 320hp.
The JDM motors had smaller ceramic turbos (like the Skyline GT-R).
The JDM motors had more peak torque and wider powerband.
The JDM motors had 430cc injectors. USDM 540cc's.
The JDM motors used MAP sensor. USDM uses MAF.
The later JDM motors has variable valve timing. USDM doesn't. VVTi improved torque curve even more. hp stayed the same.
JDM cams had less lift and duration. Worse for top end power.
JDM motors has no EGR.

late model usdm cars had vvt-i also

Because if cam'd and tuned properly, you can help spoolup and have a nicer powerband with variable valve timing.

That and it's more readily available.

Yup that was only the NA 5 speeds ... But this engine should be very very powerful. There isnt a Supra in Canada that I know of that has this engine, and only a few have gone this way in the US.

Alot of people complaing about weaker rods , but that doesnt matter to me since I am ditching them anyways!
