Try sending a message to Kenny, he's an administrator...

But get the message out. A good friend of mine started up a free car sale site for Calgary. He'd probably want to know about it, and so would alot of other members on the forums.

I didn't reply because I didn't feel it was necessary. Beyond.ca marketplace is a local marketplace. Furthest purchases I've seen of cars are from Calgary to Edmonton, with the parties arranging to see the cars in person either thru friends or other forum members.

That and our 30 day rule deters pretty much all spammers and scammers.

Until it becomes a problem, well, it's not a problem. It'll just cause more problems than anything IMO.

It is the apparent air of legitimacy associated with the scam ads because they copy legitimate ads with pictures, details, valid VINs, etc. and the suggested use of an independant 3rd party escrow agent to protect the buyer's deposit ( a small amount relative to the value of the car) plus the very low prices that could cause some buyers to forego normal precautions. That could include Beyond buyers, even if they did not see the ad on Beyond (I still think that is only a matter of time as Beyond has no way of preventing these people from registering).

If I hear Escrow = no buy

Shady cars at unreal prices = no buy

The people that are going to get ripped off will get ripped off regardless of what people say to stop them.

Well, it is news to the operators of some of the websites I've contacted because they were unaware they had fraudulent ads posted on their websites and have thanked me for pointing out what was going on and have taken steps to remove the ads.

Obviously by your response you appear to believe that the particular scam I am referring to is well known by everyone, yet, I am seeing more and more of these particular scam ads appearing.
Generally, it is only because scam ads are successful in bilking people of money that fraudulent sellers bother to post more and more ads on a wider variety of websites. As I pointed out above, just because I have not come across one of these ads on Beyond YET, is certainly no guarantee that they will not appear in the future, but, more to the point, Beyonders look to many on line sources when purchasing their vehicles.

I think that the community in general appreciates the concern, but this type of scam is well recognized and discussed here on the forums.

In any event, I have given you the information. If you choose not to act on it, that is your decision.
I dunno why you had to PM me. I mean it's a *gasp* public forum. You're free to post your warning up like you did in this thread. Don't need me to hold your hand in posting a thread :dunno:.

I don't have that capability and simply gave you all the details of how this scam operates and a link to a typical scam ad posted here in Calgary and asked for your comments.
I never asked for your handholding and did say in my PM, at the very beginning, that if I had sent this PM to the WRONG person, to please just advise me or forward it to a more appropriate person.
Had I any idea what a jerk you or others on this website could be, I would have never bothered.

749009 in all honesty, BEYOND is a great site. There is ALOT of good goings on here.
You have to understand Rage2 is a busy guy. I mean...This is HIS site. Minor mis-communication perhaps? Apparently the lack of mental capacity driving some of these replies is a little much. (ca2p3r PMing is free!! )

All in all its understandbale you were just doing a nice gesture for the auto world. It could have been handled a bit different IMO.
But then again, this is the internet!! You have to understand some people are HUGE behind a keyboard!!

Stick around it's a good place! Don't let this piddly hack session get to ya! You could have your picture posted in "Ask Leo"

fuck enough with this stupid scam, if you get tricked by it you are a real fucking retard, people report this scam to bargainfinder about 1000 times a day, boo fucking hoo, deal with it.. honestly.. if you think you can buy a 2002 BMW with 56,000miles on it for $4000, you dont deserve that money as much as a scam artist does..

i dont blame rage for ignoring this pm

honestly, any internet forum with an open marketplace will fall victim to scams ie. Z24_3.1, but its an open forum if someone is posting something that is too good to be true and is shady one or more people will make comment on it and deter a sale

although your efforts to thwart possible scams was commendable it was un-neccesary

749009: Honestly, you could have just as easily got your msg across by starting a thread on the issue. If your warning has as much credibility as you say, frequent members would have all read the post and and we would have all been informed about this problem.

You are more than welcome to post your warning - those who are interested in your msg will see it and the purpose of your threead will reach anyone who reads the thread. Further, if your msg had any real significance for our members, it would have likely been sticked anyways. You are the first person i've seen that has needed to ask for permission to post a thread! That is what this forum is all about.

Instead, you've exhausted a lot of unnecessary energy promoting the benefits of your msg. Twenty posts later, i'm still wondering what your warning is

I did in fact contact kenny and he politely replied to me shortly thereafter and that was the end of it UNTIL all the rest of you......insert appropriate word.......had to stick your noses in where they clearly didn't belong.

Had rage2 simply replied to me in a timely fashion saying, "thanks for your concern, but, Beyonders are very familiar with this specific type of scam, so I don't feel a sticky warning is required, but, post a thread if you like", that would have been the end of it and I never would have posted anything.

But instead, Mr. I get over 100 PM's per day ignores my PM and then has lots of time now to flame me for simply asking for an appropriate contact person.

And the rest of the intellectual giants pile on afterwards.
Well, by now you realize I'm not going to respond on the thread and likely will forego Beyond for some time after this wonderful experience.

If you really wanted to know it was a fake car ad that lists a car for super cheap, guy asks for deposit without you ever seeing the car, you lose deposit cuz it was fake. LOL seriously, I don't think I need to post a warning for common sense.
