the car was automatic i think, and it said it wouldn't go into neutral

that would be kinda freaky because of the fact that you are going over 200 km/h on a highway with traffic everywhere, but i woulda just turned the ignition off and used the brakes. most people think that they lose control of steering when the car is turned off, yes the steering wheel locks but that is if the key is out. also, if the pedal was just stuck down because of the trip the car wouldn't accelerate like that because hes problably been goint 70mph for quite awhile now, and the only reason it would accelerate like that is if something in the ecm messed up or one of the lines caught and somehow pulled the throtle cable in even more. etc. but not coming out of drive into neutral? no idea how that would happen

or the dumbass accidently hit cruise control and bumped the speed up. Mine as the adjustbale cruise control, one hit sets it, one hit raises the speed, holding it raises even more.

ya mine had that too, but unless hes asleep i doubt he would have his finger on the cruise control for that long and also. the bmw cruise control system gets interupted as soon as your foot hits the brake.

the wheel wont lock if you leave the key in the ignition, it will only shut off the engine, and unless your going to parell parking, you wont need the power steering nither.

heck even without powersteering you can parallel park

on automatics, if you turn the engine off while staying in gear (if it allows you... i did this on an old accord) the engine will keep going due to the momentum... you will eventually stop as it will die as soon as you go aroun 20km/h but until then the momentum will be harder to stop... and any kind of cruise shuts off if you tap the brakes

don't think he knows how to drive... you turn off the car and coast the steering lock isn't even an issue because you turn it back to acc or even number 2 position just don't start the car.

"I don’t want to drive ever again" all i have to say is one less guy on the road that doesn't know how to drive.

even if the steering DID lock when he shut it off...he'd be better off with no steering at 70 MPH rather than over 100... lets see what comes out of this.

the Tranny was stuck because if the gear is under load it pretty darn hard to put it in neutral, he should have turn the car off and pulled on the selector at the same time and then turn the key back as soon as the gear released and the engine died...

but really we can all sit here and speculate on what should have been done, but in those moments when panic sets in, it hard to think straight and do the right thing.

At least he survived
