hi,

i am considering giving away for free one of my 2 turtles (red ear sliders).

they are relatively small (about the size of the palm of ur hand).

i will only give it away to a person who can show me that they will care for it (ie. give it a good home).

lmk if you are interested.

Please please make sure you research this thoroughly before getting a turtle.

They are very dirty animals. You have to completely change out the water AND filter every month or so, sometimes more frequently if you have a less powerful filter. Their poop smells. They need lots of room to swim and a heat lamp with resting space during the day.

When you change the filter, you need to competely disassemble the pump and use a wire brush to get all the poop and algae out, otherwise, it becomes real disgusting. They need to be fed every other day (depending on what you feed them) and you need to take them out of their aquarium and put them in a separate container to feed. Otherwise, it gets dirty real fast. And they'll scratch and claw you if they want.

Finally, the turtles smell. Your house will start to smell like turtle poop. My wife has 3 of them. I walk into the house and I can smell them immediately.

Again, not discouraging anyone, but as with any pet, you need to make sure you're making the right decision. They're super cool though when you give them some feeder fish. Them turtles will chase after them and shred them to pieces when they catch them. I've never seen turtles move so fast!

And yes, there are quite a few up in TD Gardens. Very cute!

The ones you have are a little big, but my main concern is with your entire tank... As I've already got a 100 gallon tank with arrowanas, I don't think I can fit both in my house, so if you're willing to part with the turtles alone, lemme know!

:werd: and theyre a lot harder to maintain than birds or fish, so make sure u have the time to properly care for them

otherwise, they are truly amazing pets if you can take their stench

Plus if you aren't careful about washing your hands and stuff after handling them you can get very sick, that's why I got rid of mine. And the fact that we had to change his water every few days because he pooped so much, it would clog the filter.

Mcknight and Heritage??? Isn't one in the north and the other in the south, not to mention it's also parallel to each other? :dunno: Furthermore, the Big Al's store has been closed down due to legal issues with landlord at the strip mall down by Heritage and Macleod. The store that I think you have in mind is called Pisces, located by Mcknight and Edmonton Trail, where Mike's Billiard is. However, I was just there yesterday, and they don't have any turtles...
