We wen't to the Auto Show and my dad is looking for a new car, he was impressed by the VW Jetta, its got 200HP and you can goto Van City with only one gas tank. He want this because he travels alot for his work, and we goto Edmonton every month anyways, its good on fuel looks ok, but everyone has one.

The other choice is the Infiniti G35 Sedan. Very nice car, alot more advanced, and it bigger but not that great on fuel, like the Jetta (the 2 things my dad is lookin more at, Fuel & HP). It's basically 1,000 dollars more and it has 60 more HP than the Jetta.

What do you guys think? Don't flame please just asking for opinion on your thoughts. thank in advance.

Yup, I did a compare at www.vw.ca, but the Jetta was fully loaded (i think:dunno: ) and the G35 wasn't

The Infiniti G35 is the best bang for your buck, so it will be very popular and soon they'll be as common as Jettas.

I've driven both and prefer the Jetta. You dad should drive them both and decide. Oh yeah, drive them on the same day if possible.

G35 or Mazda RX8 in my opinion.

You sure?
Are you sure your dad wasn't looking at a Passat?

Go for the G35, there shouldn't even be a question!

Fresh design
Luxurious

Jetta is starting to show its age, it should be up for a new look pretty soon. Just a thought.

hahaah my dad liked the RX-8 ALOT, but he's like the Chrysler Intrepid (not sure, i forgot) has the same HP, whats the point. Because his friend got a Chrysler with 240HP and it is VERY nice in the inside and his friend keeps buggin how his car is "the best" with price n HP.

first off, i maybe wrong but one tank of gas to hit van??? that must be one SUPER CAR

and the prices are a little off too
G35 starts at $39400
jetta GLX starts at $26900

Yup

VW Jetta GLX VR6
- FULLY LOADED
-2.8L, 200 HP, 6-cylinder
- $37,890

Infiniti G35 Luxury
- 3.5L 260 hp 6-cylinder
- $38,900

jetta tdi probably

bigboom
03-18-2003, 07:03 PM
i think you have the two confused...the TDI is the one that can hit van in one tank of gas...but that only has 90HP. i believe the jetta you are talking about is the VR6, that has 200 HP but it doesnt have the economy of the tdi.

id go with the g35

G35 hands down, just different class! G35 vs Passat maybe.. but i still say G35!

DAMN VW Lady!

nope, I'm sure it was the Jetta, the one at the Auto Show, it had 200hp and it was silver, and the base was $31,000...She said so many people are ordering that they can't keep that car in stock, and she said for ummm 2 more grand or 3 more grand it'll have that tank or what ever it is...so you can goto Van city in one gas tank. She might have been thinking about another VW I dunno, we'll just goto a dealer and check it out.

Gonna convince my dad for the G35 for sure! hands down its the winner, but my dad is more interested in the VW. And he doesn't even know alot bout Infiniti cause hes familar with european/american/import cars, because he didn't even know what Infiniti was until the show. Its a nice car, with a reasonable price!

Actually no.. the jetta uses LESS L of gass per 100km than the G35... When measuing L/100km, you want a tiny #, but when measuring Mi/Us Gal. you want a BIG number :D

The comercial on TV was from calgary to Vancouver on a tank in the TDI. Not the VR6. Its a 6 CYL. there is no way it could do that. I think the lady was shitten ya. Oh well. Thats a strange comparison though. The cars are almost not even comparable. The only areas where i would go with the jetta is in terms of the fully-loadedness and the fact that the G35 is in its first model year. I really dont like the idea of buying a car before the bugs are worked out. Not that the G35 has bugs, but how do we know, it bairly got on the market.

I really don't think these cars are really comparable. Me I'd prefer the G35, but comparing it with a Jetta? That's like comparing between a Camry and a Civic. Its a different class all together.

Actually the way the Jettas are designed today. That analogy comparison no longer fits. The Jetta VR6 models are probably better designed and comes better equipped than any Camry or Accord. But if you're talking purely class than yes, the Jetta can't be compared to a mid size car. But it's pretty close to bargain luxury, if there is such a thing.

The GLX does come fully loaded whereas the G35 is missing a few things. When you take into account PDI, admin fees, and the other various dealer charges the Jetta is probably significantly cheaper. Also, not sure if your dad is concerned about insurance, but the insurance is probably also way cheaper on the Jetta. I'd go Jetta between the two mainly because the G35 is still in the first year production.

If your dad is worried about gas then the G35 is not his car. My freaking car drinks it like its going out of style. Well maybe it's my driving habit. G35 owners are all bitching about bad gas mileage but I don't really care if I wanted fuel economy I would have bought a civic or something like that.....I rather drive it and enjoy it who cares about paying a little more for gas?

Just to give you an idea. I get about 400km from one full tank of premium, yes it requires premium. The tank has a 76L capacity so you're looking at $45-$55 per fill up.

The premium model cost 46K plus tax and insurance is really cheap for me for the G35 it only $1000/year.

Yea, You're right about its 1st year production. My dad does car about his fuel shit, because he prolly fills his car up every 2-3 days, he drives too much, and the G35 does suck alot of gas.

Which car is compiting with the Jetta right now?

Highway mileage is pretty good for the g35s from what i've seen anyways, around town it is a little on the thirsty side but it's got a 3.5L motor, what do u expect? IMO between a g35s and either the passat or jetta, it would be the g35s. Looks better, handles better, and can compete with and beat a 3 series sedan for thousands less. I don't recall any jettas/passats being able to do that, besides who wants fwd anyways? The only problem that i know of so far with the g35s, besides the recalls that have already been issued, is the BOSE sound system. This is a problem that pretty much effects all of nissans products though, and is not strictly a g35 problem. If you want to get gawked at get a g35, if you don't like getting noticed then get a vw.

It competes indirectly with those cars. Indirectly because of the size the Jetta isn't quite a midsize car. But it has the same level, if not more, of refinement and luxury as those cars.

Direcly it would probably be your typical comparison with Sentra, Civic, Focus, Neon, Corolla, etc... which if you did any type of comparison would beat all of them in every way shape and form except for price tag.

I would have to argue the ability of a Jetta VR6 to compete with a 3 series. It prob handles just as well and would directly compete with a 3 series sedan for much much less.
