View Full Version : Having troubles deciding on a new ride...

Well the RX7 is going, I have changed my mind about the old car scene and wanna move into the newer car scene.

Heres what I have in mind,

Nissan 350Z Coupe
Infinity G35 Coupe
Subaru STi
SLK 32 AMG

I know they are different classes of cars and all that bull, but what do you guys think?

I like the Z because its beautiful and different looking and of course RWD.

I like the G, because its sleek, RWD and has class and luxury.

I like the STi, well because its an STi but I am not sure if I want AWD, I hate having traction!! No fun there.

I like the AMG, because of its style, class and refined feeling, except the automatic thing......

Mods would not be the case with these cars, wheels and general bolt on mods thats it. Or buy one with some shit already done.

I am looking for slightly used, 03,04 years... Right now I am more towards an 350Z and an STi.

G35. That car is perfect for its price.

SLK 32 AMG
STi
G35
350Z

That would be my order of choice, simply becuase: the mercedes is always fun to drive I think, and it has the name/class. In a general crowd (normal people) its a bit more respected becuase of the name. I don't know if you want that or not.

Good luck with your decision. all of them are nice cars!

i would go with the g35 or the SLK 32 for daily drivers. The G35 is a very classy car, but mercedes of course has a long and respectable history. The mercedes would be great as a comfortable performer (having the automatic trans), but the g35 with the 5-sp auto is fantastic. I test drove one with the 6 speed (this was when the manual tranny for g35's just came out, so it may have improved), but i just found it to exhausting to drive the manual version around (i just prefer comfort over performance:)

But i like the cars you picked out, and im sure you will have a blast with whatever one you pick

Personally I would go for the STi but since I have bought my WRX I have been in love with Subaru's and AWD.

The SLK is a close second though.

Plz dont compare a subaru to a AMG benz.....I think my choice is clear, as long as you know they are not in the same price range.

^^^

No comparison being done here! And my price range is $40K and you can hop into either one of them for that price! As stated above I am talking used condition.

If you're going to narrow it down to the SLK and G35 then I'd pick the SLK, simplily because it's a mercedes. Would people notice you as much for driving a infiniti? I think not.

I wouldn't go for the last generation of the SLK. the one max_boost is getting is the one to get.

G35 all the way in your choices. I don't think it is hard to find a used one as well! :D

If you plan on tracking the 350z you better be interested in replacing the stock brake system. I ate the rear rotors and the front and rear pads at a two day driving school(car is surprisingly heavy). As for everything else, it is indeed a wonderful daily/track car.

I would go G35C, but I am biased. If all you care about is what other people think about your car and getting noticed then the SLK AMG is probably the best choice. If you haven't test driven all the cars do that first, since you may just outright love the AMG more then the others. In this price range it's better that you like the car yourself before thinking about the image it exerts.

I'm not sure what the service and maintenance on the other cars is like, but I can tell you that although Hyatt Infiniti holds a monopoly on Infiniti's they easily have some of the best service you can get. Infiniti doesn't have a reputation for having great dealership service for nothing, and in Calgary it's no different. Annual cost of ownership is also quite low in comparison, unless of course you track the car and burn the brakes out every month.

G35. The STi is quick, but nowhere near as refined as the G overall, IMO.

I was in the same boat as you, here's whay I didn't choose the others...

G - heavier, slower and more expensive
STi - interior is crap and styling isn't for everyone, ricer fanboy style (puts on flame suit)
AMG - reliability question and huge repair and mod costs

In the low to mid 30s range you can't beat the value of the Z

Slk32 easily, so fun to drive, and WAY faster than the G35 and 350z. Not to mention it's a hard top convertable, awesome in the summer.

Don't let the auto tranny in the SLK fool you. It'll shift faster than 90% of the manual drivers out there.

As wicked as a G35 looks lowered with wheels, I'd chhose the SLK. For the price the SLK 32 can't be beat. I'm obviously biased though hehe. It'll rape every one of those cars. Bone stock. The convertible factor, once you've driven one, you'll never go back. The hardtop is awesome for shitty days. And it makes a great winter car with winter tires. Of all the cars I've owned, I loved my SLK 32 the most.

If you're worried about reliability, just don't mod it ;).

I am getting rid of the 7, just for the simple fact of I dont wanna deal with any bullshit with building the motor and such, I dont trust the one shop in town that claims rotary specialist (going by horror stories outweighing positive storys) and I'm not to keen about dealing with backyard builders, so fuck it all....I am going new and to a more filled market.

The 7 and all its parts are C/Sold

Nothing to do with faster shifts, I just like/need the full feeling of driving.

I got that with my SLK. Of all the cars I've tracked, the SLK32 was by far the most rewarding and fun.

What about size on the " cockpit "? Are they small like the S2000? Never actually been in one. I am 6ft 230lbs.

Size should be fine dude, I'm 6'2 170 and I fit fine height wise, Rage is a bigger man than I weight wise and I've never heard him say anything bad.

You definately have to go out and take an SLK32 for a spin man. Don't make your decision without driving all the cars.

SLK AMG =

I would pick the G35c just because I think it looks the best out of that bunch and has decent performance to go along with it

The AMG is very appealing though and Im sure its probably more refined also

Tough call :dunno:

Id check into the 350Z or AMG.

It sounds like you wouldnt fit comfortably in an S2000 but thats a car that should be on the list as well

G35's are way to common... I see them EVERYWHERE. whats the point of getting a hot sportscar if you cant go for a drive without seeing 3 others...
STi's are nice, but are very trendy. How are you gonna feel about an ugly car when the trend dies off...

^^^ LOL so true....But luckily not for me. I have been an STi fan for years even before the bandwagon. I am from Ireland, so a 22B scubby was not a rare occurance.

I am actually looking into an 01 Audi S4 right now. I am having such a hard choice with this......going on 3 weeks now! lol

Buddy of mine has an 01 S2000 and yeah, way to small for
my " daily driving likings " Its nice to have a go-cart feel though.

I'm not fat, I'm big boned!

But ya, at one point I was 230lbs 6'2" and it was comfy even with roof up. Had to hit some serious bumps with the stiffer suspension to knock my head on the roof, lots of headroom.
