I was washing my car today and noticed a red felt or paint dot on my tire. Stupid thing won't come off I had to scrap it off. Never had it there before. Anyone know why or where it came from?? Is it a tagging method for cops??

i believe new tires have that on there, some have blue and yellow dots as well. some instead draw those colors on the tread instead. i forgot what it means though, i think its a new tire indicator? no idea

I think the Parking Patrols mark your tires to track how long you have been in a spot, possibly that :dunno:

^^ Don't they usually use chalk? I don't know if they're allowed to use permanent markers on your car lol

Parking control will usually use chalk, and they normally mark on the tread, so you don't see it right away walking up.

I've seen lots of new tires with the red dots, but I have no idea why they are there.

The red dot should be lined up with the valve stem when mounting the tire on the wheel.

I've never noticed it there before. I'll try to take a picture of it
