I bought a PSP last night and the previous owner put an image on the background. There are no images anywhere on the memory card and I have no idea how to remove it. I read the user guide but it's not in there.
Firmware version 1.5.

I'm thinking it was upgraded to 2.0, the image was added, and then downgraded to 1.5. So I'll have to do it all in the reverse I guess.

Probably used a third-party homebrew program that changes the default file(s). If you found that program, you could probably change it at will. Later firmware lets you choose one anyway though, so maybe just update.

the pervious owned flashed the firmware of the psp.

thats risky because he could have bricked your psp

No worries, I upgraded to 2.0, removed the wallpaper and downgraded back to 1.5. I got Homebrew running successfully now.
By the way, what's bricking? Just ruining it so it won't boot up?

I think the boys over at www.pspvault.com or www.psp-hacks.com have developed an emulator that will work without GTA on firmware 2.0. But who cares, it works on 1.5 and you can upgrade and downgrade anytime you want. Just don't hit that magic button that says 2.0.1+.
