In an unfortunate turn of events for the legions of Australian video game fans, Sony's president of the Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios division Phil Harrison announced today that the upcoming PlayStation 3 controller will be unable to pull double duty as a precision kangaroo killer. Apparently the boomerang/banana shape that we've come to accept as the PS3's major drawback is being "tossed" in favor of an unspecified redesign that will be unveiled at E3 in May, mentioned Harrison in a speech that was mainly about the Xbox Live-like PlayStation Network Platform. There's a lot of pressure on Sony here to unveil something appealing for several reasons: they need to placate the vocal minority of ravenous fanboys who publicly slammed the initial design, but more importantly, they need to prove they can outdesign a bunch of very talented gaming blog readers.

I bet the redesign is going to be shaped like a remote.

They had the right idea...well somewhat. Maybe if they just shortened the handles a bit and made it similar to the PS2 design (maybe a bit more sleeker) I think it would be a go.

The console resembles that of a George Foreman grill.

Lets hope not. We should keep remotes for use with audio equipment, dvd players, and tvs ;)

The controller may have not been too bad, its hard to judge without ever using it. Things could be alot worse. I don't exactly know how a remote would be awesome for a gaming console such as the revolution. We'll have to wait and see what suprises they have in store for us.

I think they should just keep the same design for their controllers.... I find the controllers they have right now are very comfortable.....

Cause why change a good thing?

I agree. The PS2 controller only needs some minor tweaking. The analog sticks need better accuracy & the D-pad is too hard until broken in & could use some tweaking. They should mimmick Microsoft and leave the original design intact & make a few minor changes.

The problem is that Sony is trying too hard to hit a homerun with the PS3 and that may be their downfall. Hell they could have used an Intel P4 processor slapped on a new coat of paint & the PS3 would still have sold like hotcakes. Instead they went with the hard to program for cell processor which is the main reason the PS3 has been delayed (blu-ray was not the main problem contrary to Sony reports). One developer has already admitted that most PS3 launch games will look inferior to Xbox 360 games. Yikes.

That's one of the reasons they can't use same design, and speculation is that it could also be a reason the "boomerang" had to be scrapped

Ha Ha. Good old Sony. Rather than do the ethical thing like Microsoft and pay for royalites on technologies you ripped off, Sony keeps trying to weasle out of paying and its costing them more money as the are losing lawsuit battles & appeals. It's business practices like this that almost make me want the PS3 to fail so Sony crumbles.:thumbsdow
