So many cops today, driving down Glenmore in the construction zone, 2 cops doing laser, then I turn onto Mcloed Trail and another cop across from Chinook..

Watch your speed :) I guess they need to make up for all the time lost in the winter...

It's statistically impossible to drive ANYWHERE in Cochrane, day or night and NOT see a cop haha. They're everywhere! I left work, got gas and picked up some Coronas and saw two cars getting busted and two other separate cops within 15 minutes

It's funny, cops seem to catch all the people doing marginally unsafe things, such as speeding 10 over or "running a yellow light" etc, but they can't do their more important jobs of catching killers, vandals, car theives etc. I've seen it first hand, perhaps they should rethink thier strategy and put the effort where it is needed instead of the simple money making schemes.

at the top of stony trail, a sneaky pig was parked hiding behind a normal F150 truck doing radar :whipped:

I think this is an age-old debate. Correct me if I'm wrong because I claim to know very little about the CPS but the same cops who are out busting speeders are NOT the same ones who are trained to "catch killers"...realistically, what's going to make the dept. more money...catching "killers" or handing out tickets? Not that I don't agree to a certain extent but it's never going to be perfect* and if there were to be a much higher emphasis on more serious crimes I'm sure we'd all bitch and complain that Calgary's drivers aren't being kept in line good enough

*Robocop and Judge Dredd could probably make things happen.

They have people catching killers, vandals, etc...
Different departments for different things. You think putting 100 people on catching a killer is better then 2 or 4 ? Too many cooks in the kitchen and a giant waste of money. I would also imagine that alot of stolen cars are found by pulling over speeders, etc...

Heres a tip. If you don't want them to pull over, don't speed and dont do anything wrong. Quit your bitching. Cops dont pull you over and give you tickets for nothing. Somebody has to pay the cops to do their job, and if a few hundred get sent out on traffic detail, whast the big deal. We all have a job to do so let them do theirs.

My bro saw the new Dodge Charger cop cars out on the road yesterday... I heard that the CPS was switching to Chargers, but didn't know that it would be this soon.

I think what he is saying is they should divert more money to the killer/robbery catching departments instead of departments that bust people for unsafe tint and burnt out license plate lights.

Believe it or not, those departments do get a majority of the funding.

CPS have been using the same equipment for speeding and what not for the last couple years.

Calgary has one of the best forensics units in Canada. Just because you dont see it or hear about it doesnt mean it doesnt exist

and for the people who are crying about them pulling over people who speed:

http://www.kentmusicschool.org/kmsgifs/violin.gif

;) just dont speed and theres no problem.

They pull people over for tint because its against the law. Why? Cause its for their safety.

Aftermarket mufflers? They are generally fucking noisy and obnoxiously loud. I dont appreciate them driving up and down my road at 2 am.

There might be different departments.. but do you not think it's better for them to just patrol and make their presence. Who knows maybe a girl will be getting raped in an alley and the guy will be gone because they were too busy lasering cars... or how about making a presence and stopping street racing. Who gives a flying fuck about 10-20 over the limit.

yup i agree with that 100%, which is why i stand by the CPS 100% for giving cops back "beats" downtown. There are cops who do patrol on foot certain blocks, go inside businesses, get to know the owners and the people in the area, thus making them more approachable. Face it going up to some random cop and asking a question might be weird, but if you see this guy every other day and say hi to him it just adds a more human face to it.

IMO pulling people over for going 10-20 will more than likely deter that very same person from speeding on that road again for fear of getting pulled over.

Well there has been 3 murders this year and over 12 traffic fatalities so far. Guess when people die in cars it's alright.

Also criminals never drive cars and have burned out tail lights or speed or whatever. Never get caught on their warrants because they are pulled over. Those criminals are sneaky people.

What did he do? Nothing.... Stupid quotas? Nah.

yeah, and im going to go out on a limb and say that those traffic fatalities werent caused by window tint, mufflers, and speeding 10-15 over on deerfoot. so thats bunk. if i recall, most of them were caused by alcohol.

none were caused by hitting emergency vehicles with their flashers on, but i bet you guys have made a good 5 figures off that one already ;)

i bet those "obscure license plates" the cps website mentions its targeting sure kill a lot of people too!

besides, its not like murder is the only statistic. there is still 751 cases of assault, 151 robbery, 810 break and enter, 825 theft from vehicle, etc ;)

geez kids. instead of acting all gangsta y0! and shiz da dizzle. why don't u just stop speeding, and take off those gawd awful giant mufflers. and drive normal and safe.

and instead of bitching and feeling like a victim, understand that the police can't predict a murder robery, or an assault.

and given the crime statistics of calgary vs population, we're doing friggin damn good compared to any other city of our size and bigger!!

the way i see it, there is a reason why most of us don't care if the cops are out; they won't bother us because they have no reason to.

... i'm pretty sure you missed dayglows point entirely.

They pull over car X for window tint or enlarged exhaust. Something "trivial" Find out car X's driver isnt registered driver. Find out car X is stolen or that the driver is a criminal.

Would you say pulling that person over was "pointless" then?

least thats what i got out of day glows post
