Hey I'm looking to buy a nice watch but I don't want to spend a fortune (probably up to $350), I have no idea what are some good watches to get. Looking for something that looks like a TAG Heuer.

If you want to buy something that 'looks' like a Tag, buy a replica..otherwise, buy the real thing!

Perhaps a Seiko?

Best Bang for the money, get a Tissot PRS200 (http://www.tissot.ch/?mod_collection/id_sport/fid_0029/action_show)

I wear one of these for everyday, and it has taken a beating over the last 7 years. Reasonably priced too. When I bought mine, it was 600 bucks. I think they are only around 400 now. Best value Swiss quartz watch IMO.

If you ever decide to get some really nice bling, consider an automatic Breitling. Some days I wear a Breitling Colt Automatic (http://www.breitling.com/en/models/aeromarine/colt_automatic/) and on special occasions, I have a Breitling Chronomat (http://www.breitling.com/en/models/windrider/chronomat_evolution/) .

Nothing like a Breitling in my books. :D

Take a look at L.A.K.S. watches (www.laks.com). They have been manufacturing high quality watches in Austria since 1986. Some watches of their collection look similar to TagHeuer ones. They also have a good standing here in Europe.

If you don't want to buy a clock only just for the looks and you also want to have something practical, get one of these LAKS memory watches. Sometimes I had the problem to forget my USB key at home. Now I have it integrated in my watch. However, this clock was only designed in Austria, but manufactured in Japan. This explains the (lower) price compared to the other models of their collection. They are a direct distributor. So you your clock will be shipped from Austria directly. These guys are very inventive, they are always working on new ideas to ease your everyday life from your wrist. :)

Decent looking watches, but I just wanted to say that this thread made me laugh. I have a friend who works at a jewelry store and is now so accustomed to high-end bling that he would turn his nose down at anything less than $1000. The watch he's got? 2k+ Gucci, and it looks beautiful...but man, I can hardly imagine anyone else (students) going nuts on a watch like that!

$2000 for a Gucci watch? no thanks - Since when was Gucci considered high end bling? Their isn't much special about them. For that price i'll spend another $1,000-2,000 and buy a low end Cartier.

I personally love watches that have plenty of functions & gadgetries with the added touch of class & style, and Citizen watches fit those definitions perfectly. I'm currently on my 2nd Citizen watch now, and honestly, I think they actually offer more in terms of style and substance than any of the Tag watches. Oh, and as someone else mentioned earlier, go to "Watch Out" on 17th across from Western; got both of mine there and they gave me wicked deals on them! They have plenty of selection around your price range too, so that may help with your search.

Dude that comment right there reminds me of those who buy a 320 just to say they have a BMW. Is more expensive necessarily better? I wouldn't know but it's a freaking watch. $4k for a watch, holy shit baller. :nut:

I wasn't saying "expensive is better" but if you're gonna spend $2,000 on a Gucci watch (which isn't even known for having great quality or a classic style)..then i'd much rather spend a bit more and buy a watch that has those qualities...and is at least worth something in terms of resale.

Gucci is good at $700-800 but not at $2,000.

and $4,000 is barely bling - I've seen some Patek's for well over $100,000...

I'm not sure where you're getting your information from, but I'd think it's a fair statement that Gucci has a wide range of products, some of which are considered classy and higher end. I think the watch is extremely classy and has great style - black face with silver hands in a minimalist but attractive layout. And of course you'd 'rather spend more'...who wouldn't? You generally get a better product for a more expensive price...but we're not talking about spending another few hundred dollars, you're suggesting you pay twice the original price for a new watch. Anyways, he got the staff discount so he ended up paying way less than 2k.

Expensive is not necessarily better, but there comes a point where you are choosing between a very nice mid-range watch (Tissot, Gucci, Movado, Rado...) to an entry level heirloom-quality watch (Breitling, Rolex, Blanc Pain, Breguet...)

I find it hard to believe that anyone would disagree with this. Gucci isn't bad, but when you think of high end watches, does Gucci come to mind? I could see spending up to ~$1k on one for a business-dress watch if it really struck you, but above that price there are undoubtedly better choices for the money.

:werd: a Gucci for $2k is not worth it. The quality just isn't there. They have some nice looking watches but thats about it.

As for the orginal question, once again Tissot is your best bet. Nixons are low quality, low end movement watches. For the price you can get a much better watch.

I have owned a Seiko Kinetic watch. Basically, the turn of the rotor charges a bettery. After about 3 years I stopped wearing the watch for a while. When I wanted to wear it again, it never seemed to want to charge again.

I know I have seen lots of self charging quartz watches, but I just can't seem to remember who made them...

oakley also makes kinetic watches.. so does the higher end Nixon.. but you pay for what you get.. kinetic is expensive.

Many companies make automatic watches, but Seiko is the only manufacturer you will see refer to their watches as "kinetic". Same basic principles regardless, just a difference in terminology. I believe this is due to multiple patents Seiko has filed specifically using the term "kinetic movement" or something similar.

Maybe you just had a defective one :dunno: Mine has been flawless for going on 3 years. The only instance when it lost time was when I wasn't wearing it during work hours.
