After I procrastinated scheduling my exam for 4 months, i decided to bite the bullet and just book it so that I'd be motivated to study. Is this exam hard? I did finance317 last year but forgot the whole class already :dunno:

I just took it around 8 months ago as a resume padder for co-op, just the fact that I'm taking it put me ahead of 60% of the students

Joseph: let us know how itgoes, and whats on it!

Noticed alot of postings in banks look highly on having a CSC. How did you figure that having CSC is better than 60%?

Whoa oldschool thread revive. I haven't but do they help? The books are just too much information.

I got exactly 60% on the first exam.... basically I just studied the crap out of the 2 chapters that made up half the exam and then read the glossary...

See thats the thing, i absolutely have to pass the exam. I am already in training for Account Manager of Personal Financial Services and will be the lead investment specialist with my own portfolio within 2 months...so I NEED to pass on the first go! worse case scenario, ill go do the mutual funds course to buy me some time...anyone done the MF course?

Mutual fund course is very easy or at least was when I took it. The book for the course, Investment funds in Canada is only maybe 300 pages and an easy read. CSC is a good thing to have however you don't need it for alot of entry level bank jobs, you just need the mutual funds course. Also a good thing to get is your CFP designation (Certified Financial Planner). Its about 6, 3 month courses that you take at night, then a big 6 hour exam at the end. Also you need 2 years work experience in finance related jobs. Then you are a CFP, which seems to be well respected designation in banking/finance. When I worked for a bank most of the ppl seemed to have either their CFP or PFP (Professional Financial Planner, similar to CFP but not quite as good)

But number one most important thing is that you have the ability and like Sales. I didn't enjoy sales so I got out of banking. It was too much stress for too little money imo. So now I will work in Oil and Gas instead hopefully.

If I dont get 60 on CSC I then i might just challenge the MF course. The CFP has 4 courses. I have done the course work for all four and have passed the Retirement planning and Strategic Investment planning. Im not too excited about it anymore as i want to actively pursue a CFA.

If you did OK in 317 and can study the hist/ethics section a bit, you'll be fine, nothing special at all, just go through the practice questions at the end of each chapter.

good luck. i've written them both and they are challenging exams. The CSC exams are pretty straight foward.... read the text, know the definition (not memorize) and do a BIT of online exams. FYI.. bring a financial calculator... makes life WAY easier.

As for those of you that are doing the CPH... it is very tricky. The wording that the CSI uses makes it so that multiple answers COULD be right. huge part of the exam = ethics.

Best of luck to those who write it,
