Who has the better MUSIC content? Im talking about stuff like more variety, ie getting away from the singles or stuff that i can hear on CJAY/VIBE. Variety and good quality of content is what im looking for. Id say I listen to lots of heavier rock, quality hip hop, and some punk... However im always open to new music, and with work spend alot of hours in the truck.

XM is slightly cheaper, really this doesnt mean anything its only a couple bucks.
XM has recievers that i like better, again doesnt mean that much, sirius ones arent bad.

Sirius has more channels, does more channels mean more quality content or just more stuff to flip?
Sirius does have howard stern, Im not sure that i care but everyone else does...

I have XM, and love it. It is cheaper (like you said not a huge deal) and the receivers are way nicer (a big deal to me). As far as programming, I can't say about hip hop as I depsise it, but it's got good punk programming. And wicked dance music...

Plus I loathe Howard Stern.

As far as i know they arent... Well sort of, the US version does get a few US more stations, as does the canadian version get a few canadian content stations. I believe that the common stations are the same tho. <-- actually heres another good question, is that right?

I have both. XM has better sound quality than Sirius but that's slowly changing, as both starve bandwidth on all their channels to cram in more channels. Means both will eventually have the same mediocre sound quality.

I personally like Sirius's music selection better. Both are close, and depending on your tastes for each genre, one provider will have the 1 or 2 stations u want that the other provider doesn't. I prefer the rock stations on sirius over XM, even tho they just changed "The Vault" to pink floyd radio (not a huge fan of PF) there's still a lot of great classic rock channels.

All the MUSIC channels on Sirius are commercial free. Most of the MUSIC channels on XM are commercial free, there are a few music stations now adding commercials on XM. TALK stations on both providers do have commercials. On Sirius (stern for example) he runs 15 mins of commercials every 2 hours for his bathroom break. Haven't listened to O&A lately on XM, not sure of how much commercials there are.

Go sign up on sirius and XM, u can get their service 30 days free online to sample all the channels and make your decision there. One thing's for sure, you will never ever listen to CJAY or VIBE ever again after getting either system.

For me the decision was purely howard stern and BTLS that sold me on sirius as my primary setup. The show is that funny. I know guys that take 2 hour breaks from work, sit in their car just to hear him for 2 hrs . I don't even give a crap about rush hour no more, I WANT traffic so it takes me longer to get to work. On days with funny stuff I don't wanna miss, I sit outside my parkade waiting for the bit to end before driving in and parking lol. If you like off topic humor and celeb gossip and porn stars riding a huge vibrator and cumming on the radio, you'll like stern. If you spend that much time in your truck working everyday, you'll love driving 100000x more.

Let me know if u have any other questions between the service.

I have XM and have had it for over two years now and love it.

O&A party rock!and Ron and Fez > the stern, and bubba the cock lover. Stern does not even boardcast 5 days a week any more and bubba is a radio hack

Stern broadcasts 5 days a week. He takes 1 or 2 fridays off every month though, but the Friday show is still pretty good when stern's not there.

Dunno why u think O&A > stern. Stern gets the best celebs to spill their beans on stuff.

O&A is just a stern knockoff, which at times is funny, but gets pretty repetitive. I listened to O&A for quite some time b4 stern on sirius launched.

I think the only person on this thread who has had any decent input was rage. That is becuase he owns both sirius and xm. Other people are just going to vote for what they own, like I did I purchased sirius pretty much just for Howard and BTLS...and the playboy channel...which really didn't meet my expectations(by that I mean it's hard trying not to rub one out at a stop light). I later found out Sirius had a very good selection of rock stations, from classical to top-40 to punk. Aside from the rock stations, and the talk/comedy stations, I haven't yet listened to anything else.

I love the Howard Stern show, so sirius for me and I can listen to the NHL brodcasts when I'm out and about too. Unlike crap AM radio, satalite doesn't cut out when I'm downtown.

Why do you have you head up sterns ass? and he is an Imas (sp?) rip off, Horward was not the first and he did not invent everything hoohoo But that is what he would have you believe. Call O&A repetitive Stern is just rehashing bits from the early 90s and is not orginal any more. Stern was once great, now he is over paid has been

I still find stern interesting.....it does wear thin a bit when they're talking about him being the original, and the best, but I sit through it to listen to some cool stuff......Covino and rich on maxim is good too...

Huh, even after beeing on both websites i never noticed the trial, gonna have to find that. Rage Is there a full artist listing anywhere? or more to the point does sirius get certain artists that XM does not?

Another question

Both have specific unedited stations, which seems to be the majority of what im listening to anyways. But how edited are the rest of the stations. I ask because XM played eminem/nate dogg - shake that and it was the radio version... (on some pop hits station) I feel like if im paying for a service its bullshit to edit the content.

All you are going to get is people voting for what they have or what their friends have. Simply put, try both and see what you find. I went to their website and got a free subscription and found that Sirius was much, much better.

i have sirius in only one of our vehicles and the one that doesnt I take to work everyday and I HATE HATE HATE calgary radio after being used to sirius.

satellite radio rules, and I voted for sirius of course. I read that XM will be going to commercials on their MUSIC channels, they get their feed from another company.

Why did you find sirius to be much better?

Im in the middle of the online trial and im finding things about both that i really like and things that arent so cool... So really the online trial hasnt helped me that much.

Is there a satellite radio forum that anyone knows about?

I found Sirius to be much better for a couple reasons:

1) I purchased a U.S. model and I liked the Sirius receivers to be better

2) Howard stern is a big factor for me. At the end of the day, both XM and Sirious were okay but howard stern was the factor that pushed me over to Sirius

3) I liked the music selection of Sirius to be better.

4) I read countless reviews comparing the two and Sirius always came out on top. I decided to opt for that since I didn't want to take a chance and find out what most people had already said.

o ok thats odd, because when he goes up into the mountains or is heading up into the mountains his xm cuts out on him whereas his buddies sirius radio is still going.

XM is really bad on the west coast because of the way the XM satellites are positioned.

TurboMedic

XM still has some signal issues, they have to get resolved. Sirius has alot of ground repeaters aswell as the satellite to relay the signal. I get signal in our stations when we're parked. But yeah, the XM signal issue is well known

ah ic ic, so thats why it cuts out

thanks for clearing that up for me

for both xm and sirius can i have the antenna inside the car without the reception going weird? i dont wanna have an extra antenna on the roof.

I have my sirius antenna in my back window behind tinted glass. In Calgary there's zero problems mainly cuz we have a really strong repeater here. On the way to Kananaskis, on highway 1 it only cut out for 0.1 seconds when driving under an overpass, and once I turned into the mountains, it only cut out 2-3 times, each time for 1 or 2 seconds during areas where u lose sight of the sky where the satellite is.

I'm going to bump this thread

I used to have XM a few years back and recently with my new car I decided to go the satellite radio route again, except this time I went with Sirius since there are more hip hop and electronic channels but I find the quality absolutely terrible, it sounds like some low quality internet radio shit.

I've used both the FM band which I can't seem to find a decent free spot that someone else isn't using and I've used the AUX cable but still get shit quality. I contacted Sirius and they said to use an FM modulator to tie into my factory HU which would kill my regular radio which I still switch back to for the traffic and sometimes local talk radio.

I'm getting to the point that I want to cancel my sirius and go back to XM but before I do that I just want to see if anyone is still using both and if they can chime in on the SQ of the devices

I think you'll just have the same problems with XM, since they're all the same outfit now. Maybe the XM has a unit with great sound quality, but I think that's dictated by the signal, not by the unit.

I had XM before it became SiriusXM. I hate Sirius' DJs and program directors. XM used to be awesome and now it's just barely worth paying for.

The modulator for my CD changer in my Stealth does that, but when I turn the power to the changer off the interference goes away. I would think the same would be true in your case ( :dunno: )

I spend a good 6-7 hrs each day in my work truck, as it is my office as well, and I will not be renewing my Sirius subscription. I guess for those who don't spend as much time in their vehicles it would be ok, but it just gets so repetitive. It seems they have some new songs quarterly, for maybe a week, then the repetitiveness begins all over again.
