1990 Mercedes 500sl your opinion requested

Good car or nightmare ? Any one own one ? Any mechanical problems that they are known for ? Any way to mod them for more power easly ? The one I am looking at has 80000km. Its a 1990 .

I think he means those import from Japan or somewhere ..

those cars are very tempting to get .. ~ $15K .. vs a local one will be $25K-30K .. or $20K area for one from US ..

I dont know how good those cars, even some Ferrari from those import car company .. some 90/91 .. for just $45K .. vs $75K here .. :dunno:

Don't bother importing one. You are right; the prices on the early 90s SLs have dropped 8-10k in the last 16 mos (OUCH!). They are no longer over valued and are quite a bargain. Do the proper due-diligence and you will be fine.

Some easy updates you might want to condsider would be painting the lower body panels to match the top (most early cars were two-tone) and look for a set of AMG wheels.

SL500's from the early 90's came from a time when Mercedes still spent a serious amount of time looking into perfecting their cars. They are solid and as far as reliability etc, I would not worry too much. They are expensive cars to fix, however, I would think that if you are in the market for an exotic, it woudl be your very best bet.

The car looks amazing, you will get looks from EVERYWHERE, AMG Monoblock Rims are a MUST.
