So your answer is "anywhere"? Meaning it doesn't really matter where?

fresh from the bow river... i know a great place down just off the banks of eau claire.. :D

hehehe

yeah.. best bet is Chinatown probably... it's too bad the Eau Claire Market concept failed.. they wanted it to be like Vancouver when it was built.. but they're tearing it down for a bigger mall/development in a few years...

From the early ongoings, it sounds like it's going to be a larger mall (not a market), office, condominiums, a hotel, potentially a new casino, a new bigger theatre, and public park space that is more pedestrian friendly and easily converted from a skating plaza to an exhibition plaza. There are also two or three new office towers proposed for the same block/area vincinity so that area will have a new look for years to come.

^ I remember when Eau Claire first opened for business. They used to have fresh fish market on the weekends. What a huge waste of potential. I wonder what went wrong?

Calgary just doesnt support the market kind of idea. no matter how fresh.. it's still trucked in from BC pretty much. That kind of thing just isnt the same for some reason. At the same time, there's not enough residential units around there to support that. They need some more inititives so people will go there.

Parking is havoc as well.. I'd like to see a large parking complex under the land to facilitate it for the future... with more and more parking lots dissapearing in favor of the new towers, parking will be very limited in the area in the next 20 years. If they want it to succeed (and they're trying really hard to encourage condos and town homes down there) they'll need to have an accessible place for people, and they wont have to worry about finding parking.

One of the things is the price of condos down there.. they're really expensive.. It's less likely a retired judge that owns a million dollar condo will go shopping for fish on a sunday. he's gonna dine at Caesars. Affordable housing will definately be a bonus by creating more density.. but at the same time, not cheap housing to degrade the area.
