RPM Needle going wonky

Today I was doing somethings, and I started the car. I noticed that the RPM Gauge on the dash was bouning around. When I was suppose to be about 800 rpm's(Idle) I was at 0. I was doing 60 k's and I should have been about 2500 - 3000 rpms and the neddle was bouncing around at 1500 - 2000 rmps. Once that I drove the car for a few minutes it stopped doing it, and it was working as normal(Going garagually like it should). Now what could be causing this, I have never had this happen before..Any info would be great..

Yea my car has the same problem except it jumps around 3000 sometimes at idle, but it flickers instead of staying steady..:dunno:

Most common for either a bad connection of, or its on its way out....the ignitor.

So do I need to worry or anything. Since thats its only doing it for a few mintues.
