I've applied at around 8 different drilling companies, still havn't heard anything back. Someone have names I can put a resume into? I know with spring break up its going to be harder to get in, but any help is really appriciated.

More or less any that I got ahold of over the CAODC's list of contractors. Akita, Ensign, Excalibur, Impact, Nabors, PD, Trailblazer, Trinidad that I can remember off the top of my head.

This is the time to get your resumes out to all the companys you can, because after breakup, alot of people dont go back so theres usually tons of openings around May-June... heres a list of most, if not all the companys you could apply to.

If your serious about it, I'd fax every single one of them my resume... Last year I faxed 15+ companys and only one called back ( Kinnell ) and that was in January which is prime time, good luck...

another tip which worked for me is call and bug them everyday

"hey it's so and so calling back just checking if you have an opening yet"

basically it lets them know you are eager to get out there as well as it pisses them off to no end so they finally say

"god damn this guy won't stop calling me get him on a rig so he leave's me alone"

tip told to me buy a drilling instructor at SAIT as well as a few roughnecks, and it worked!

ciao

walk into each office and apply. they put a name to the resume.
do it each week over and over.

they will know that you are serious.

Whos got time for that? Thats stupid, maybe fax them all every second week at the most.

Gotta remember they need the workers more then anything so they'll call when they need you, simple as that.

no dude, your stupid. Who will get hired, the guy that faxes out resumes or the guy that goes and applies in person?

I think you must have fallen down and hit your head a bit too hard, because your simply talking some stupid stuff.

Who has time to go out and get a job? Hmm maybe the motivated do buddy.

^ done that and still nothing, I laughed when I saw that long list, since I applyed to most of those. Unless your have your H2S ALIVE, then they wont even look at you.
http://www.enform.ca/index.htm

you'd best take a LOT of the courses offered here to show that your interested, otherwise its easy to look like a transient looking for work.

Or fly up to Fort Mac like I did, their SCREAMING for people.

Getting your class 1 makes a huge difference, since every oil company is screaming for drivers.

I've got all my tickets to go on a drilling rig, I've got to get ahold of Champion again.

There many camps up in Fort Mac?

Does anyone know how dangerous these jobs are, i don't mind hard work but don't want to lose any fingers or worse.

theken
05-16-2006, 05:35 PM
danger depends on how safe u are, people can work on the rigs for years and not get hurt, if u pay attention and are smart, others can be there 2 days and die be smart and safe

Tha VZA

^^^ thats true

"dont stick you hand where you wouldnt stick your dick"

use your head and you'll be fine, i hurt myself more working on cars than i ever did at the rigs!

and applying in person everyday is a good thing, shows them you are serious, want to work, need work, wont give up, and pursue things until a result is found

guess what oilfield work is when you get stuck, problem solving until the situation is fixed!

everyone applies for the rigs...i just got back from leduc applying at different places for different positions. the two most notabe call-backs are Halliburton and Ensign. out of 10 resumes i dropped off on monday i've received 4 call-backs so far.

note that i didn't apply for a single rig position but i get paid the exact same and do easier work (just make sure you have all the tickets for the work you want to do).

well testing/servicing is the best one for sure. good luck!

so your saying service rigs are much easier work (less labour intensive) then drilling rigs ?

You should try some oilfeild trucking companies, pay is just as good, get to see a different place every day instead of the same lease over and over and over...

Only applied to a few places online last week after I got my h2s, denarii servicing called me up today and the guy wants me in Camrose so he can take me to Grand Prairie on Sunday to get some work done!. And I just got my first aid today, didnt even need it...good to have though.

He wants to take me to the bar for our interview and see how I can handle "the rig life" LOL. Just gotta stay faithful to the GF, lets see if it can be done....she dosnt like the idea :).

Wish me luck guys, the guy on the phone (Chad) seems like a really A+ guy, just kinda scares me cause by the way he talks I think im gonna get in alot of trouble....

The Ironic thing is, now that I just got my first aid I was going up to Edmonton tommorow to apply in person at a bunch of places. Looks like I probobly will not need 2.

So im going on the service rigs.

After im done in grande Prarie I will let you guys know how it is. It seems alot of guys on here suggest the smaller companies over the big ones, as long as safety is good :).

Good Luck Audio ^^

We're up in Calgary right now, been around to all the offices in Calgary and we are heading to Nisku tomorrow morning. Does anybody know if anybody is hiring up there right now? We're planning to head to all the big ones, plus all the smaller companies we know of. From what we've heard in Calgary, most people are telling us road bans are just being lifted and they'll be hiring in the next few weeks. Since we're from Sask, it would be great to find something on this trip, but so far no luck. Any suggestions other than persistance? Thanks

BTW, we are looking for drilling rigs 2 on 1 off or something similar.

Guys

There is a company in Barrie Ontario who recruits roughnecks for the oilfields. Oilfield Job Connections.

I went to them and they got me my job with Nabors. It saves a lot of hassle trying to get it on your own and saves you money in the long run. It was the best decision I made.

This company gets you your certifications (H2S Alive, Airbrake and first aid)

They charge you $2475.00+HST

They guarantee an orientation with one of the major oil companies out West. When you have orientation with the company you are hired unless you are a total idiot.

Good luck
