View Full Version : What to buy for new cars?

Well I lost out on the auction i was bidding on and found out today the mazda6 speed was horrible on fuel. So either way im now stuck looking for a car here to buy right away. My options have changed and now looking for really good fuel enconmy car. I was thinking of honda accord hyprid.

I don't know enough info on these cars even though i have read and read so much in the last 2 days.

I also dont want to buy a car thats going through body change within a year. (That will just suck :(

I can't make up my mind between 2 door and 4 door. I want good resale value but mostly is 50litre tank to fill and really good fuel milage.

Let me know what you guys think...I don't want to blow 30-40k and end up buying a vehicle thats horrible on fuel. Im really a sucker for looks on the inside of the car...lol..:) ....what to do?

I heard when i was at honda that rsx is changing the body style for 2007

So your budget is $30-$40 but consider Mazda6's gas mileage being horrible.

So your choices are:

4 Doors

- Loaded 06 Camry 4cycl. Redesgned and is a lot less boring than 05

- Loaded 06 Accord 4cycl SE, tons of extra for a low price and fiancne rate

- Loaded 06 Acura CSX. Good fuel enconomy but basically a Civic with Leather and Navi

- Accord Hybrid, not many of these birds around and it ain't that fuel efficient but is better than the V6 version. No trunk pass thru or sunroof tho.

- Loaded Jetta Diesel. A smaller car and diesel take you far.

2 Doors:

- RSX Type S - pretty useful hatch but this line is rumor to be dropped after 07, so another 1.5year to go. No new RSX is mentioned.

- Civic Si - pretty much the new RSX Type S minus hatch and leather. It is heavier and slower (not by much) than the RSX but everything is way better than the RSX other than the subjective styling. Although driving it, you'll automatically labelled as ricer.

- Accord/Solara coupe - I don't see the point of have a coupe that drives like a big bloated sedan.

To be true, there isn't many fuel savers in that price range, people shop in that range probably care more about performance than gas consumption.

umm what to do....

The only thing which i know is a small thing is the side of the civic i dont like. It needs a oem bodykit or something..i like the inside and front end just not the sides of the civic.

Rsx on google search shows there will be rsx for 2007 but i need a car within 1 week.

Personally I would have gotten a WRX had I not bought what I have now. They are cheap but they aren't that great on gas. An RSX is a nice option if you want reliability.

04-04-2006, 02:51 PM
how about the new GTI? dunno about the reliability issue though. :D
small engine, good power, fuel efficient...
I have been seeing a lot of the new civics lately! is everywhere even with such a high interest rate. I like the CSX better even though is a civic.

The Honda accord Hybrid is not for gas mileage, it is for more power with the same mileage.

If mileage is important to you, stick with something with 4 cylinders and is light.

Yea I was just going to suggest getting a TSX for a car in that price range

?????

$40000 out the door(meaning all taxes and fees in) for a 06 tsx navi with a spec is a great deal.

harley11
04-04-2006, 11:43 PM
Well i was at honda and they quoted me $26,000 for the si and i would have to wait till june for it...also the shifter i hated with the car and decided against it. Its way too far away from the armrest.

In that price range i think the TSX is a great choice. Especially with the package you are getting, definately worth the 1 week wait. Seem much sportier than the other cars listed and since its a 4cyl, and its honda it has to be fuel efficient.

Okay someone has to set this straight for me:

Okay online it shows :

MPG (city) 22
MPG (highway) 30

Okay the 2006 acura tsx with manual tranny on the car in the showroom shows:

Fuel Consumption (L/100 km): Manual City/Highway: 10.8/7.2*

Now im not sure if im doing this right but with my calculations the car would get the best kms per tank at 642 with 65 litres of fuel???

Also the salesman said the car can run on regular but every site i see says premium whats the deal??

Now im sorry but my 1993 oldsmobile cutlass 3.1 did better then that atleast 700 mark and towing seadoo 620k per tank 60 litre tank.

Why not go with something thats a few years old and then you still have some money left over to put into the car!!! A 2001 Acura Integra GS-R would be my choice. Good Luck

If you don't mind a 2 door car, I'd suggest an RSX (Type-S or otherwise). IIRC it is more fuel efficient than a TSX.

viffer
04-05-2006, 07:23 AM
The TSX will get wayy better mileage than what you guessed. My dad had one for a year or so and got ~800km/tank highway, and close to that in the city. And I think he just ran regular in it, not premium.

Anyway, if you are still considering vehicles and fuel economy is #1 priority why not look at a Civic hybrid.

If you do go with the TSX though, nice choice!
What does the a-spec package get you? rims/spoiler/bodykit/suspension?

If you can get A-spec/Navi for $40k out the door, that's hella good deal. Take it.

Okay im soo lost at this car buying thing...the salesman changed the deal up when i went back there today...he says $45,000 cash plus tax.. for the car cause someone else is interested...im like umm okay then...cause that was there asking price...so i left and went down too acura dealership in the NW and they quoted me...

2006 acura tsx 6 speed nav
with the body kit installed...(just the bodykit not suspention)
$45,737.37 taxes in

msrp on the car is 39,000 i belive with nav.

What should i beable to get off this price?

Also im really stuck on which car i should get:

2006 mazda6speed $45000 taxes in

2006 chrysler 300 hemi $41,000 (some options missing)

2006 acura tsx nav

Now i know you guys are biased and say get import which is fine. the acura gets the best fuel milage and what not which is great but for less money i can get 270+hp mazda....im really lost...mostly when i walk in the dealership tommarow i dont know what to offer them...i know they have to order it they dont have any in.

Buy a VW TDI.
Jetta, Golf, Passat, whatever your choice.

the TDI's are quick little cars that get about 1200km to a 45 litre tank. Also, VW's are probably one of the best cars to buy as far as resale goes.

Also, the TDI Golf 4-door starts at $26,000. (last time I checked anyways). At least give it a look before you decide to buy.

IMHO anyways.

Well im not a big vw guy sorry about that. Well getting ready to go soon...the dreaded buying a car from the dealership...(well order one) I just found out tsx doesn't have a trailer hitch option which is horrible cause i have seadoo....thats really a big blow to the sale...mazda6speed does....

Is the platform for the TSX original or does it come from another car?

04-06-2006, 01:42 PM
how about getting a tsx without navi. you dont need it if you know how to use a map.
my 05 tsx non navi was about 37 last feb
and about a month ago i got a full factory body kit and fog lights from silverhill for only 900 bucks.

oh and the milage i get one the car is about 500kms in the city, and about 700-800 on the highway
a fill with premium is about 50 bucks a tank

btw dont get black because it scratches so easily

the tsx is the same body style as the euro accord
but we get a different motor and other stuff like different interior

Buyers like you tend to get ripped off when they go buy cars like this. You don't negotiate a deal from their price down. You go and find out the dealer cost of the car (online) then you add a fair profit which at most is a $1000 in this range. I would start with dealer cost + 500 and - fees + msrp + tax. They will try their hardest to confuse you with things like asking you how much you can afford to pay per month and such.

Just concentrate on the price you found to be fair and stick to it. most dealers will accept a 500-1000 profit unless the car is really rare and a hot seller.

redblack
04-06-2006, 02:13 PM
that is correct,
i used carcostcanada to find the invoice price and went from there.
theres 2 acura dealerships in calgary, so just go back and forth till you get a price your happy with.

I have a 2006 Accord EX-L (fully loaded with the K24 iVtec). I love it so far. I get over 700km on the highway on 50L of gas (600km city).

With the EX-L you get EVERYTHING... heated seats/mirrors, CD changer, leather, sunroof, power everything, alloys, 4 wheel discs and its a pretty tight little car with a pretty good sized back seat with lots of headroom.

In the end it cost me just over $30k.

harley11

Well i got mad today so i finished going to NW acura. I didn't have setup on my bank account to put $5000 on interact....so i have to go back there tommarow for the down my offer for the
2006 tsx a-spec...$43,900 plus taxes and what not but this isn't written in stone it will have to go afront of sales manager problem is the car isn't built yet...i would have to wait till may 31st at the latest...Its because i want nav...he he he....

So basic low down:

2006 tsx nav 6 speed

$43,900 apon approval .......

$5000 (security deposit)

They want $45,071.14 plus tax, etc

Now i wanted to have the front bumper, hood, mirrors 3-M protection which the cost was $550.00 is that hood? doesn't sound like it.
