I get a lot of people calling my cell phone who have the wrong number, and they usually call while I'm in class so I don't answer anyways. However, today I got a really strange one...
1-513-000-4322
What the fuck is a 000 number?
Is this an operator assisted call or something?... I have never seen this before.
Could somebody enlighten me?

Ask ScCab, he owns all the area codes and can explain in more detail.

I work for Telus Mobility, this is normal, just means someone called you from a calling card. My friend used to call and it would show up as something like 1-999-000-0000. It's just a phantom routing number used to transfer the call.

I get weird numbers too, and when I call back it says they're out of service/no longer in use :nut:

Its possible that a 000 exchange could be valid. Its just part of the phone number and might be in an area where 10-digit dialing is required (so you shouldnt get the operator).

:dunno:

000 is not a valid NXX, no company owns it.

513 is ohio. I don't know anybody in Ohio, and even if it is a valid number, I don't want to pay long distance to call this person back.

Calling card, that one makes sense. Would that imply that the person calling me was in Ohio then?
They didn't leave a message on my voicemail, so they must have figured out it was a wrong number when they got the voicemail message. They also haven't called back.

It just really made my brain hurt to see a 000 number.

He didn't have to be in Ohio, he could have been next door to you. But if it routed through the Telus system, down to Verizon, through an Ohio system, to the calling card company for validation, back up to your phone, you'd see the phantom number.

Ya, they auctioned off that number, it went for a nice few Gs. The biggest one was all 8s because of the Asian culture. But anyway, there are a few explanations for that.
1. It was the guy who has the number, but not sure why he'd text you. He said one time he always gets baby calls....babies who pick up the phone and just keep hitting 9 twenty times until he answers his phone.
2. Someone went onto www.mytelusmobility.com and sent a text message to your phone specifying what they thought was a phony number (403-999-9999) as the callback number.
3. Some phones can specify callback numbers as well.

I know a guy who has 403-999-9998 and another guy who has 403-999-9699. They both work with me.

Are you saying Telus auctioned off that number, or the guy sold it and transferred the account?

Telus Mobility auctioned it, I think the proceeds went to some ccharity, that's what I was told in training a year ago. I think it went for $25,000.
