you check shaft play by wiggling the wheels.. see the big center shaft? grab it and wiggle it back and forth. If the blades touch the housing, you need to rebuild the turbo. Then try and pull it in and out, if it moves this way at all, you need to rebuild the turbo..

it doesnt move up and down, but it has a VERY tiny wiggle back/forth, i don't think its touching the housing though? how much is it generally cost to build a turbo again?

like $300
if it is a tiny wiggle and doesn't touch the housing its fine, a little shaft play is normal.

I think I'm going to get someone to look at it tomorrow anyways to make sure...i dont want to install a bad turbo , thanks for the advice b_t, tell me more.

Not much else you can check until you install it :)

sounds fine, some shaft play is expected until the turbo see's oil pressure, so you should be alright.
